We are pressed for time. Most people spend a half to a full week out there exploring. We have to run out Friday night and return home Sunday. Your not on your own for trail runs , everyone is really nice and will let you tag along with their groups.

Yeah, we would probably get to Ridgecrest Thursday night and head back Sunday as well.

I prefer primitive camping also, but in this case, im taking a few people that dont camp very often and plus we have some girls that like to take showers and wash up. Having a full bar with New castle on tap across from camp isn't so bad either:) Or if you want a nice Filet Mignon, they have that too. It's also cool to post pics of the days run to family and friends from out on the trail once you get back. They have wifi in the camp. It's once a year, i figure i can reward Yosh for all the other times we camp with no emenities. Also a time we can hang with non-hard core people that are friends of ours that dont like to camp the rest of the year.

I hear you on that, my GF can hang in the primitive stuff but my Mom is kinda another story but she is freaked out about going off-road with me and I am afraid she will just want to stay in camp.

I dont usually like to wheel in groups either.

Bizarre rule that most people dont know about in DVNP is that you cant travel in groups bigger then 6!

Sounds weird, but we read it in the rulbeook AND had a ranger mention it to us!

My .02

So that's why you only have room for one more vehicle.

We should have 4 rigs in our group. I can't stand having a 'fleet' of rigs also. Everything takes a eternity to accomplish. Interesting rule. Last year we were good with 3 rigs also. Maybe thats why there aren't any official runs and people just go out on their own in small groups instead of one large run.

The Norcal group always splits up in to groups of no more than 6 while traveling thru DVNP, but to my knowledge they've never been hassled camping as a whole group at night.

Ummm, So Dave looks like I am going to join you that last weekend in October. I just made a reservation and I might have a buddy come test out his new Colorado. I think this would be a good choice to work out of a camp ground since I will be fully loaded and the ladies will be happy to have facilities to use. I made my reservation for Fri & Sat night but will probably get up to Ridgecrest Thursday night. What is your plan?

As for runs I just want to scare my Mom a little which shouldn't be hard and check out The Race Track, Ubehebe Crater, and Scotty's castle. They are all within 30 miles of each other.

They had sites left? Woa. We are heading up after work Friday (trying to get the day off or leave half day, we'll see). Heading home Sunday around noon or so before traffic gets bad.

As far as runs go, that sounds fun. I didnt get a chance to see those 3 last time cause we went and checked out badwater instead. There's talk of a all day (6-8 hours) run out to Saline valley or something.. (lots of driving). It's all up in the air until we arrive.

Nice, yeah they said there were 6 left so now 5 spots. I just shot my buddy an e-mail and said to reserve a spot. Oct 26 & 27 right, just want to make sure I got the right dates.
Well we will probably get up there Friday late morning and will probably go check out Bad Water after setting up camp.

Sounds good man, that's exactly what we did after we set up camp too. Takes a good 3 hours or so. It's like 60-70 mins over the mountain and down to Badwater. Before you know it, you've been gone for 4 hours. We'll hookup at camp when we get there.

Shot of the 80 @ Badwater, you can barely see the "SEA LEVEL" sign up on the cliff.

Hey Mark

That is the exact run we did last time, hit all those spots!

Most cool, but ya gotta move at a quick pace to cover it all.

If you use a Garmin GPS, let me know and i can give ya the file i made for it!

Well my parents keep asking me when am I going to come home and visit since I haven't been home to Ridgecrest since Christmas. I need a little inspiration to go home to my po-dunk home and since Ridgecrest is under an hour from Death Valley I think a run is in order.
So I am starting to do some research and am looking for any advice you guys could offer since I have never lead an expedition type run or ran any of the trails out there. There is a great write-up in the March/April edition of 4wd Toyota Owner Mag where they mention many of the spots I would want to visit. I would like to visit Devils Golf Course -282 ft below sea level the lowest spot in the US, and then most of the other locations are at the Northern end: Scotty's Castle, Ubehebe Crater, & The Race Track where the rocks move across the dry lake bed due to rain water and 70 mph cold winds.
So anyway if any of you are interested here is an online map Link to check out and I am thinking the first or second weekend of November and this would probably need to be a 3 day weekend trip.
I am totally interested in suggestions on trails such as Goler Canyon and others but in order to see most of the sites it will be hard to hit a bunch of trails.
We (Japanese TLC and Hilux )too are heading that way to similar spots on our way home from S&T Nov 2-4..looking to join anyone heading that way and can guide us around, suggest place to go , etc....email off line at alsenj@gmail.com

Hey Dave, can you PM me your e-mail address. I wanted to show you the trail I mapped out in Google Earth from Panamint Springs to the race track. I know no runs are planned ahead of time but I would really like to put this in the hat. It would be a decent run, about 60 miles in the dirt just to get to the racetrack and back to pavement over by Scotties castle.
