Hello everyone,

I am going to install an auxiliary LiFePO4 Lithium battery soon and I will use the Victron DC/DC charger to charge using the alternator.

Does anyone know on which of the 2 starter batteries I should connect the DC/DC charger ? I looked at the Victron manual, checked on their website and looked on internet and couldn't find an answer to that question.

Cheers,

Kevin

If both batteries are directly connected to the alternator it shouldn't matter which one.

This is the source of alternator charging power for the dc/dc unit.
Oh thank you. I thought each battery had a specific role for the car (one for accessories and one for running the engine) and therefore wondered if it wasn't better to connect to the battery that was the least solicited.

They might, depending on set up.

So connect to the battery connected to the alternator

First question... is this a 24V starting vehicle? Please provide some details on the engine/electrical of your European 80.

cheers,
george.

Sorry, I completely forgot to include the specs of my vehicule.

It is a 1HD-T engine (HDJ80) from 1992. I thought all 80 series had the same battery setup which is why I didn't include the model.

Not at all, petrol 80's run a single battery stock and the entire electrical system is 12V. That's why it's important to understand your battery setup (series/parallel/combo) since that will be a critical factor in how you connect the DC : DC charger. Don't want to let the magic smoke escape...

cheers,
george.
