Hey All

I’ve run the DBA rotors and Hawk LTS pads on 5 different trucks and feel it’s the almost perfect combo for stopping feel/power, noise, very little dust and longevity that’s second to none!

Noticed that DBA now has a few different pad options for use with their rotors non, and even though ive been super happy with the DBA/Hawk combo, my curiousity is peaked.

Anyone ran both have any REAL WORLD feedback?

Thanks

Having recently transitioned to the DBA rotors and pads, they are still noisy but not as bad as I remember from my 100-series. Huge stopping power improvement over my OEM pads and rotors.

Thanks. What DBA pad variant did you choose?

Your OP asks for info. from users that had experience with both but the combo I used was the same as posted:*
  • DBA 42723S
  • DBA 42724S
  • HB 590 Y.682
  • HB 589 Y.704
* Upgrading brakes for more stopping power. - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/upgrading-brakes-for-more-stopping-power.1307753/post-14875638

I also highly recommend SLEE's stainless brake hoses:
SLEE Brake Line kit - '08-'21 Land Cruiser / LX 570 - Slee Off Road - https://sleeoffroad.com/products/stf1009/

Thanks. Yes, that link is the EXACT combo I’ve used on my 80s, 100, Tundras. Was 👌🏼

I paid the big $$$ for DBA rotors and Hawk Super Duty pads 4 years ago. My pads are now down pretty low, so I'm in waiting for the parts to arrive to do the 2016+ larger brake swap. Yes, the Hawk pads were noisy at slow speeds, lots of creaking. But what really kinda bothers me is that the slots in my DBA rotors are almost worn flat. Like, almost gone.

I remember Ken at KNS Brakes telling me "these will be the last rotors you'll ever buy". Nope. They are also heavily rusted on the back side.

So I went with OEM rotors this time, and I ordered Hawk LTS pads.

Thanks for the info.

Yikes. I had the DBAs last on my Tundra (with a four wheel camper) and at 45k on them I took it all apart to inspect before selling it and pads (LTS) were about half worn but rotors looked brand new. 🤔

what did you go with @Boston Mangler ?

my last set lasted 94k miles

debating staying with oem or changing

I went with the DBA and Hawk LTS.

So far it’s freaking 👌🏼

Night and day improvement and pedal feel

Shoot me a PM if you’re considering DBAs

I have the Hawk LTS installed now, but with OEM rotors. I will say that they are totally silent at low speeds, whereas the SuperDuty pads were really noisy, lots of "groaning" noise at very slow speed, like in a parking lot. Not sure on the dust situation yet.

Did the "16+" front brake upgrade, very noticable improvement, well worth it.

@KLF how are you liking the OEM rotor and hawk LTS setup so far? In terms of pedal feel, dust and noise?

I was planning on replacing my OEM rotors and pads that I changed a few months ago with the TRD pads but found out that they are back ordered everywhere. Planning to keep my OEM rotors which have less than 3500 miles on it. Now contemplating going with the Hawk LTS or the Stoptech Sport Performance (309) pads which people say are the same as the TRD pads.

I also got some stainless steel lines per your recommendation.

Opinions on the stop tech vs hawk LTS seems mixed but the consensus seems to be hawk LTS produces lower dust but doesn’t have the same and pedal feel/bite.

I don't see much dusting at all, but honestly the truck has been pretty dirty lately due to lots of snow, and now we're in a melt phase, so the roads are a mess. I tried to wash the truck the other day but it was filthy by the time I got home.

I would say that the pedal feel is significantly improved, the truck just stops much much better than before, but I assume most of that is probably due to the stainless lines and the slightly larger brakes up front from the 16+ upgrade.

Highly recommend the LTS pads, no regrets with the OEM rotors, yet. I had DBA rotors prior to the upgrade (still have them in the rear), and although they look cool with the slots, I just can't justify the much higher cost. But I'm not doing burnouts and desert racing, just a guy enjoying his truck.
