Greetings, I am newbie here since I just bought a uzj100. I have a '96 lx450 with slee light harness and have great light but the new 100 is dimmer and kind of yellow. I ordered the John Deere HIR $26. each. THANKS Cary. The DTL on the 2001 prohibits HIR's there. BUT, I asked Daniel Stern about the HIR for high beams on my 2001 uzj100. His answer Quote - If you're in a location where DRLs are not required (such as the USA), then the simple solution is to turn them off. If you do have to have DRLs, they can easily and inexpensively be reworked to the newer turn signal DRL system used on the current 4Runner amongst others. close quote

I haven't seen any threads on this -- what are you guys doing to address this issue? I thought about wiring the DTL to the fog lights and using the stalk position that controls fogs to hook up the 9006 hi/low beam and the 9005 high beam for max output. This would mean that the high beam stalk position would be high beam on 9006hi/low light. I got so much light just from slee's wiring upgrade I have thought to reproduce that in the 100 to see the results but Cary or someone said there is little/no voltage drop in the 100!? Well, you can see I need some straight talk from the group. Oh, how would you rewire DTL to turn signals? Thanks, SI Steve, Shelter Island NY (east end of Long Island.)

my understanding was the DTRL's just drop the voltage of the highbeams, I dont see who that would effect running HIRs

DRL's do run off of the highbeam light and no the low beam, but also I do not believe it would make any difference whether the bulb is HIR or not.

I would agree on both accounts.

Sorry -- I should included Daniel's reason for not using HIR on DTL . He said that HIR on DTL would be way too bright and glare prone. You guys are correct the dtl is just 6 v of High Beam. So to use HIR on High beam I need to move the DTL to turn signal location to keep dtl funtion. SI Steve

I find that hard to believe.

I agree with the Pimp, HIR will not be too bright or too much glare to use as a DRL. Heck some trucks and others run their nighttime lamps all day, does not make any difference what-so-ever. Throw the suckers in there they will work fine and not cause glare issues.

O.K....Suppose you want to delete the DTRL altogether...Do you know what pin to remove on the DTLR relay ? ...Or do you think it would be safer to remove a wire at one of the junction blocks ?
