Here's my '69 fj40 dash.

Anyone know what the hole above left of the ignition is for? It has an oem rubber plug in it, but I've never seen it before.

Doesn't show it in the manual either.

Mine is a '71 with a build date of Dec '70 and where you have that plug on the left, that is where my Brake light is.

I don't know how I missed it earlier when looking at the thread, dang shaky hands must have clicked something wrong, but looking back through I see where someone posted a pic of their owner's manual on the instrument panel page and that dash is laid out like mine. That tells me everything I need to know.

What is the red button or pull knob to the left of the cig lighter? And is it a push button or a pull knob?

Then on the bottom row, what is the small black one on the far right? The 2 "H" pulls must be the heater, front and back. Which is front, and which is back?

On the far left you (and I) have 2 lights, 1 above and below each other. What are each of them?

Then to the left of my wheel, I have a light labeled Brake, but to the right of it is another light that is not labeled. Do you have that too? If so, what is it? Also to the left of the wheel is a white pull knob. Do you have that, and if so, what is it?

So, it looks like I need to track down an OEM Hazard Light Switch. That's what I am missing.

Yes red is a pull hazard. Bottom light on the left is a green light that lights when in 4WD. The light above it is a turn signal indicator. There is a matching lighter for turn signals on the other side of the cluster. My 70 does have a brake warning light. The other light left of the cluster is a brake warning light.

The switch closest to the driver is the rear heater.

It always seemed odd the reear heater was closer to the driver. Also first pull is high then all the way out is low.

Yes red is a pull hazard. Bottom light on the left is a green light that lights when in 4WD. The light above it is a turn signal indicator. Thank you. So, it looks like I need to find a hazard pull for my '71. I looked at City Racer just now and didn't see it. You don't have one in that massive parts stash of yours do you? You know your wife would be happy if you let 1 thing go. LOL

Anyone know where I can find a hazard warning light switch for my '71 FJ40 (build date Dec '70)? I've looked at City Racer, SOR, CCOT, Toyota Parts Deal, FJ parts, and Classic Cruisers so far and have not found one.

I saw one a few weeks ago that would work in my 72 for like $100. The turn signal switch in my 83 F150 went out years back NLA so I wired in 2 switches for less than $10 plus added a couple LED blinkers I could actually see on top of the dash.

$100 for a hazard switch?! Hmm... if I can't find a good price on one I may just have to put a plug there and not have hazards.

You might consider rebuilding it yourself. Or for only $600 you could buy one.

1979 has nothing there.

On Diesel it was a glow plug switch

I wish mine had the factory spot for a radio and the 2 lower dash pass on either side of it. Oh well.

But since I'm not a purest, I guess I could make the opening and then get the 3 piece lower dash pass and make it look like it came that way.

Beware the factory radio is not as wide as a modern DIN size unit. A wider radio can be fitted but will interfere with the dash pads. Please don't hack up your dash for a radio. Get a blue tooth radio like @thecrazygreek sells.

I have cobbled together a totally new stereo solution for your 40 series. (or any other car/truck) It only takes up the space of an in dash switch!

This is a Bluetooth only, dash mounted, 100watt, little powerhouse!

Hooking it up is easy. Supply 12v (it can take 5-24v) switched power. I recommend running it off your stock radio fused line.

It has a two speaker connection block and comes with the correct power adapter cable.

The best part (for me) is it comes with one of my custom knobs pre-installed.

I have three (see below for additional ideas) knob designs. One is pictured below. The other says TUNES Written on it. I can also do one that says RADIO if you like.

Believe me this thing thumps!

I have these for sale at $149.00 each. which includes the knob of course.

Beware the factory radio is not as wide as a modern DIN size unit. A wider radio can be fitted but will interfere with the dash pads. Please don't hack up your dash for a radio. Get a blue tooth radio like @thecrazygreek sells.

Blue tooth will never happen for me. Not looking for compressed shaved music. Cutting the dash underneath where a padded dash piece goes is easy to fit later since the padded dash covers the repair.

The way mounted the radio in my 68 I did not have to trim the two padded dash pieces. Been so long ago can't remember if when I installed cut the holes for the pins a little apart or not. In my 73 the radio opening is still original. Hard to believe since the rest of the dash is so hacked up. It even have the blank plate used when the optional radio was installed. On my 73 that has the two piece padded dash would take a different approach than I seen done. Instead of cutting off the ends will just notch the back. That way no cut edges will be exposed.
