Hey guys, the lights on my gauge cluster and center console are out. Guage work, but no illumination. All of the fuses in the kick panel box (by left foot) and under the dash are good.

Just before the problem, I installed a new head unit (Alpine) and ran new speaker wire to the driver side front speaker (it was pinched somewhere along the line) and also replaced the motor in the lock jumper on the front driver side door.

I did not connect the orange "dimmer" from the back of the new head unit to anything, I think this might be the problem….

Any thoughts? I will double check fuses.

Thanks

I just replaced my stock HU and had both the HU and center console lights (AC/clock/cigar/lighter ports) go out. I had 2 blown fuses in the kick panel by left foot. Replaced them and everything back to normal again. The 2 fuses that blew were the 15 amp cigar and lighter fuses.

With so many lights being out, my guess is a fuse. Did you check the fuses with an ohm meter?

There is a fuse box in the engine compartment as well. I would check the tail light fuse?

So, i would like to first say thanks for yours guys help... and then say I may or may not have turned the dimmer switch all the way to "Dim" sometime during the install....

So basically....I pulled a bunch of fuses and pulled the dash apart again for no reason haha.

Ha ha! I've been there with a little truck I had! You feel pretty dumb after you realize what you really did! Had the light on the back (with 3rd brake light) stay on for a wile before i finally figured I had turned the knob all the way up. Simple but lame.

I remember a time when my wife asked what was the ticking noise coming from under the dash. We looked and thought for a while and got worried with no results. After a while we determined the turn signal was on when the green light flashing was noticed.

Sometimes the most obvious is the hardest to see.

Hello,

I have the same perplexing issue. What did you do to fix the ticking issue? Thanks for your time

Joe

Turning off the turn signal works every time. That was twenty years ago and we still laugh when it comes up. On occasion, when making a turn, she will ask; what it that noise? It's good to laugh at yourself sometimes.
