Saw it this morning when I went to go to school. It has about one drop and thats it. Dark green thick fluid, no idea what it is. Anybody got an idea?

Thanks

where under?
gear oil with grease in it?

Is it off to the side near the the inner tire area? Diff soup leaking from the birfs perhaps?

Thats what I'm guessing, it's around the differential.

Blah, this mean I have to repack the birfs?

It likely smells like a dead Dinosaur (gear oil).

That is indicitive of a front axle or transfercase issue (provided the suspect area is in the front or front-center of the vehicle.)

Pinion seal if the birf wipers are dry.

Either way, you have contaminated gear oil and should think about a full front axle service in the near future.

Gee - I can probably answer this one. Gear oil. My guess is that DanK hit it - Pinion seal. Just went thru this.

Look at the drive shaft about a foot back of the front diff. housing. You will probably see a small trail of the gear oil from there to the front diff. I guess it's doable yourself according to most on this board if you wrench yourself. I had dealer do it. Pinion seal and nut ran about $10 and at expensive SoCal dealer labor rates $170 for the labor.

Good luck!

It could be from the breather. When the gear lube gets contaminated or old it tends to foam and leak from the breather.

Looks like it is the pinion seal. Guess my truck is going to be sitting at a friends house for a day to get it fixed. Considering that he has finished rebuilding his wrecked 80 with my help.

Thanks guys.
