Yep, I really don't really care that much I guess.

I have acquired an offset FF Dana 60 rear as part pf a trade. I am debating hanging on to it for possible use in one of my own rigs or selling it. Since there are not a *lot* of Cruiser guys using them up here, and there is really no question of shipping it south, I figured this would be a good place to start to try and determine just what market value on this might be. (At least market value in the '48 anyway. :)

Any suggestions? What have you bought or sold an axle like this for recently?

What is the spline count? That will help determine value.

Is it out of an old Ford van or a Versailles?

Just me, but I'd keep it for a future project. That's potentially a nice piece.

My local junkyard gets $150 for any rear axle. Unless it's got a locker or some other special feature they're not worth a whole lot IMHO.

Hi All:

Mark W. is this axle from an airport tug?

I guess the value on the enthusiast market would be driven by A) the diff ratio, pinion spline count, and axle spline count; and B) how compatible this axle assembly is with aftermarket up-grade parts.

Regards,

Alan

If your breaking R & P's or you want the added strength of the Dana, weld up & redrill the hubs for 6 lug & run it. Aftermarket support is massive w/ about any locker & gear choice down to 7.17. Probably the most industry supported axle out there. I run one in one of my trucks w/ never a problem. What's the ratio & WMS on it? 30 or 35 spline? Locker?

did not know there was any offset rear FF D60

Years ago there was some talk, on the old LCML, about these axles coming stock in the rear of South American FJ60's. I believe Henry C's "Princess" had one from the factory. It was a semi floater though.

This came out of a Ford Van. No idea the spline count or ratio yet. The data tag is gone and the drums are sticky keeping me from spinning it to count. Gonna pull the rear cover and a drive flange in a day or two and get a better idea. Obviously I don't know what the market value of it is yet, but $150 won't get you ANY sturdy axle around here. ;)

Not too many Cruiser guys up here running Dana60s. That said we DO run larger tires than most places. I am pretty satisfied with my Toyota axles but MIBs is always lurking. :)

The airport tugs that draw my attention all have ZF or PSI axles... planetary hubs and and 17-22:1 gearing. Just had a set of PSIs slipp away from me, but sniffing around after another set. :)

Henry C had a semi float Dana 60 in Princess which came stock in the Venezuela market.

A couple of the guys up here I have mentioned it too seem very excited at the prospect of a full width, offset Dana 60. Like me they are running V8s 250:1 and higher gearing and 40/42 inch tires. Just have to wait and see if the excitement is still there once I figure out a price.

Or if I just decide to keep and use it myself. ;)

Yeah I knew SF rear D60 .. actually we have some of those down here .. but never came in FF version. ( not at least for us .. )

I'd love to have an offset d60 rear in my 40. I'll give you $150. AFter all, zebrabeef says that's what it's worth...

I've seen them in junkyards here in town. Not all that rare honestly. Lots of ford vans out there.

The pick-a-part local here sells front 4x4 axles for $135 (60's included) rear axles are kinda odd. Sometimes they will list a rear axle as a "tag" and it goes for $110. And sometimes the list it as a "rear end assembly 8 lug" and it goes for $165.

I have not found a D60 front in that junkyard yet, but I look almost every time I go there...

btw, I'd keep it for when you need the extra strength.

Theoretically, those van 60's were the HD version, and had room for 35 spline shafts without boring out the spindles..

I have assumed that since it was out of a van ot would be the beefier unit.

Up here, we have about 4 "new school junkyards" that don't save anything but late model stuff that they can sell to body shops, a couple that crush EVERYTHNG for scrap and two very limited selection yards that keep old stuff or scrap it depending on the mood. :(

Not sure what yards may be in Fairbanks (350 miles north), but no indication that they are any different. (and they have a LOT fewer people there than down here.) With only about 400K people living on the road system at all, there is just not enough population or vehicles to support the kind of junkyards there are in the larger areas in the '48. The key here is to network and scrounge stuff that is sitting in peoples yards or out of the ay spots collecting dust ad never making it to the yards.

I am leaning toward thinking that I will not be able to get as much for it as it is worth to me to keep it, mainly due to the limited market for it.

I'd buy D60 fronts all day long for that price.

Absolutely, and I look almost every time (110 degrees makes me puss out). Still have not found one..
