We've only got our 60 and 40.
Our roads stink- they are really awful, so a 60 as a DD makes a lot of sense.
Upgraded to an HJ 60 to improve fuel economy. Plotting out the idea of a 13bt for the 40 for the same reason.
Would be great if I could get my A/C working on the hj, then I wouldn't have any reason at all to complain.
If I were in the states, however, I would almost certainly DD either a hybrid or a diesel VW.... for what I would be spending on Cruiser fuel per year I could buy an awful lot of modifications!

86 fj60 DD for now

My normal DD has been in the shop in another state for a few months and I have been driving the FJ60 for a while. I need to get to VT to get it! I like driving the 60, but the gas expenses are a bit of a drain. The radio has to be set higher than I like, but, there is nothing like driving a LC to and from work. My commute is 11 miles each way - half highway, half suburban roads. I am guessing I get 12 to 13mpg, but can't bear to figure it out for real.

My 60 is my daily driver. I changed the oil last weekend. It had 4k miles on it so it was due. I looked at my records to see when the last change was - 12/18/03 Yow! Its been an entire year. I don't put enough miles on it for the poor milage to matter. If I had to drive more, I likely have a commuter car in addition to the 60.

My 60 has been my daily driver for about 2 years now. Got rid of a near new VW GTi VR6 to purchase it, with no regrets whatsoever. I'm getting the normal 12 miles to the gallon but my commute is only about 6 miles round trip. I even drive it back home to see mom every year at Christmas which is a 1000 mile round trip. It's never failed me.

My 45lwb has been my DD for the last 10 years, but I've recently begun splitting the duty with my 84fj60 and now consider it a DD as well. Not as versatile as the 45 for a guy who spends a lot of time picking up old landcruiser parts, but way cushy compared to what I'm used to. I got used to the 15mpg long ago, as ours is an all-truck family, so I don't even think about that. The fact that I only commute 15 miles each way is pretty nice too.

And the 60 really cranks out the heat in the winter!

big, bouncy, and bad ass!! a prime pedestrian intimidator, tough to urban park, parking garage questionable, and a little rough riding for around town errands/etc. with the the OME suspension and 33's for some of my passengers but hey, that's what kidney belts are for :D

12-14 mpg city (despite the big meats, leadfoot pending) - 5 speed good
15-17 mpg highway (18 with a tailwind -- bwaaahahahahahahaha)

better on long highway/off-road adventure trips than for around town use. home based business so i don't log many miles per year -- would own high mpg commuter if i had to commute any distance daily

my 2¢,
-dogboy- '87 FJ60

Yep, 60 DD here. 75 miles a day. When I bought it last year it only had 105k. Won't take too long to add to that at the rate I'm going. It's not too bad, really, except when filling up. (Just spent $35.00 at the pump last night...usually lasts 3 days!) I get about 13.5-14.5 MPG. I've gotten pretty used to it. It would be nice to have a 5 speed (or a diesel ;) ), but I'll take what the Cruiser gives me everyday, anyday-It's better than working on something all the time! :D I used to DD a '95 ext. cab Tacoma 4X4. Now THAT was a nice vehicle. But it wasn't a Cruiser! My biggest complaints: the uncomfortable seats, and the MPG.

I DD my 82 FJ60 about 40 miles round trip each day. I originally bought it to keep the miles down on my 4Runner, but I find myself driving it everyday, and never driving the 4runner anymore. I just took it on a 200 mile roundtrip this weekend for the first time since I bought it in very rough shape at the end of the summer. It preformed flawlesly. Gas mileage was about 14 on the highway. Judging by the past posts it could be a bit better.
Anyways I love bouncing along in it. It makes me smile the entire time I am driving it.
No complaints from me. I used to have an old VW van in college without heat, AC, or a properly working radio. So driving this truck is heaven.

I DD my 89 FJ62, when i don't drive the car. i don't know what the mileage is because it has 33s on it with stock gears so of course the odometer is off. don't really care either like many others have mentioned. it's perfect for what i bought it for

1) money pit because no car/truck is ever done

2) hauling people, items

3) snowboard taxi to tahoe (haven't tried it yet but i can guess)

I DD my 60, about 4 miles to the office stop and go traffic. Piss poor gas mileage but it turns some heads. Wouldn't change it .

Edit: Well I would change the mirrors that the PO put on. Fawkin ugly 1970 Chevy lookin POS.

DD an '84 FJ60, mostly stock, with 31s. Less than 10 mile commute, ~12 mpg in town, but if I hold 'er at 45mph for an entire tank, I've gotten to better than 16. 166K miles, runs like a top.

I sold my 1998 Mustang Cobra, and don't miss it often. I got a great deal on the 60 from a friend, and wouldn't trade it for (just about) anything.

FWIW: 31s with stock gearing means you can multiply your speed / mileage by about 1.11. (10 mph really means 11, 50 means 55)

My daily drive is about 6 mile roundtrip. I've been trying to convince myself to walk...but the cruiser is much more fun. I often find myself tearing up the weeds across from the office (cruiser make great oversize weed wackers).

Similar complaints regarding gas milage. I think somedays the warm up period is longer than the actual drive to work. One of these days I'll walk....when something breaks!

Our HJ 60 makes a great DD. Being a diesel it gets great mileage, around 25 or so to the Canuck gallon. It handles great in the snow even with the lousy stock springs. Has a great heater and plenty of room for everything you want to carry along. I don't get to drive it much since I bought a 45 pu that has become my daily driver. My wife now gets the 60. A bit of a difference driving the 45 but the only complaint I really have with it is the LOUSY heater and defrost system. That's when I really miss the 60 .The 45 turns a lot more heads though. It just needs a diesel in it when the 2F packs it in.

I drive my FJ62 as grocery getter and on road trips. I am a carpenter and my DD is a 1990 Toyota 2WD pickup. It's kind of a s*** box, but I couldn't care less how it looks. I would never use the LC for work if I could avoid it, not only does it suck gas as well as any American hog ,it is too nice inside to start spreading caulk and other construction flotsam around all over it. Plus, as far as maintence goes my P.U. has no options, not even power steering. When I look under the hood it has one belt that looks like rubberband and two holes to dump fluid into. I think a chimp could keep it running. I know these trucks don't put the fear of God into people the way Land Cruisers do, but the money I save on gas makes up for it.

62 is DD, but I don't have a daily commute. I live in a land locked small town where you just can't drive very far unless you hop a ferry, so mileage isn't as big of an issue here. 11MPG around town, 16 or better on the open road. It is hands down the best rig I've ever had for winter driving, and my all time favorite rig.

My stock 89 FJ62 is my DD, with a round-trip commute of about 36 miles, all highway, no stoplights. Best thing I think about the Cruiser? It's so stable in foul weather. It's currently dumping snow here in Jackson, WY, and there's all kinds of cars sliding off the road. Driving in, the Cruiser felt as stable as a battleship! My wife calls her the "Chugger," but she admits that we always get there no matter the weather!
