I've been DDing my wife's 6.2L 60 lately to work the bugs out of it. It rides a lot better than I thought it would. Stock size tires and stock gears and it still feels like I'm running it hard at 60. It still hasn't seen the highway with the new engine. Got 19 mpg with the last tank. Looking for 20s.

It ain't no 80, but it does OK. :)

My '90 62 is my DD and I love it. I have about a 40 mile round trip through downtown Atlanta. That thing is a beast. I get about 12-14 mpg on average but can't complain. The benifits out weigh the drawbacks of mpg.

mt dd is a 21 y/o 210k 60. except for the PS issue ( see threads) ive got no complaints.
i only drive about 50 miles a week.

My wife daily drives our 89 FJ-62, she's been driving 60's and 62's since 1983, it's a super nice truck but I think she'd like to drive something different for a while, she's just tired of seeing the same old shape in the garage! I dd my resto'd 80 FJ-40, when I can stand the heat. Hot sumbitch at 107 degrees tho! Now, where'd I leave that a/c??? Mileage sux in both. Boo Hoo!

Carolina,

I will only regear when I am ready to throw ARB's in as well, but that suddenly becomes a $2K proposition. Then I look at how much more I would rather wheel my '75 Bronco. The Cruiser can stay parked a couple of years and then I will get to it. I guess what I am trying to avoid saying on a Cruiser forum is that I have a lot more fun with my Bronco, it has way more potential for serious off-roading, and that is where my money is going. Even with different gears I would no longer DD my 62 anyway.

I trade off my '90 FJ62 w/OME lift on 33's and the piggy, '76 with SOA on 35's. Only 4 miles to work. About 9.5mpg in town with the 62, never measured the pig mileage.

Neither of my trucks are regeared - Cruiser engines have so much low end grunt it's not necessary. The only time I feel the need is at 55mph in the FJ62 going up hill, when it's constantly shifting between third and fourth gear.

The only issue I have with the ANWR oil drilling is that it's supposed to be a strategic reserve, for use in emergency. If we use it up now then we have no reserve. It's like using all of your savings so you can eat out more often.

i DD mine to and from work and on the weekends. don't do much highway driving and my commute to work is about 10 miles round trip. has worked out great.

getting a new DD though as my commute will be further when i move to Texas.

ready to have the 60 as what i meant it to be...toy/hobby/future trail rig
