Hi. Just bought a 1993 LC with 248k and am in the process of fixing some stuff in the dash. I noticed that when I put it in drive, the 'D' is not illuminated in the instrament panel. It goes in drive just fine, the light just seems out. All of the other gears in the instrument panel light up (R, N, etc) when engaged. Is there a light for each gear or is this a relay. Should I just start out by taking the dash a part?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Please please please familiarize yourself with the "Search" feature of this site first before you get butchered. Especially about something THIS common.

And welcome to the no "D" club :flipoff2:

And yes you will have to take your dash cluster apart.

Smack the crap out of your dash several times before you take it apart. Worked for me!:D

I like having the "D" light on, I don't even notice it at night. Don't see how some people find it fatiguing. I think they're just fixating on it.

Second the "Hit the Dash" idea. Worked for me at 160K and she's still on. And having taken the dash apart, I'd wait on that fix until something more pressing get's you taking out the dash.

How about an excuse to do the Temp Gauge Mod.:D

Just ignore it. After a while you will forget it's even there!

Re do the dash lights with LEDs!

Oh and welcome to the no "D" club. And kinda like no "D" shinning in my face at nice. Hate bright dash nights.

D light? We don't need no stinking D light.

Here are some pictures that may help you. The "D" bulb along with the other dash bulbs are common. The larger wedge type bulbs are #158's. Some of them have a green condom on them that just peals off and can be put on a replacement bulb. The bottom row of bulbs are #74 bulbs. Again the condom thing on some. Any auto parts store will have these bulbs. The "D" bulb is a V-2 bulb and is common to many different makes and models. In the side view of the gear selection light connector 2 of the bulbs are Honda as can be seen with the slightly different base installation slots. The gear selector indicator connector fits in the slot in the center of the combination meter in the picture so you can see how to get at it.

I just did my temp gauge mod and replaced all the lights with LED's. Just got her back together tonight. I did not know there was a light telling you the door was open!!

i like not having a d. i spend a lot of time in neutral, which is lit, so it makes it more obvious to me.

Ive had no D for at least 4 yrs and its not worth pulling the dash apart for one bulb!!
