if you do make a new gutter make it out of free stainless from me
Haha, sounds good, but I think I'm going to extract every last second of the s***ty one's descent into red powder.

Plus...my appetite for hardtop ****ery is decreasing rapidly. :poop::vomit:

In the mean time, I put this up with what it'd look like with a set of vent windows in it sideways. So I can walk past it a few dozen times and decide if I like it or not.

Kinda reminds me of Optimus Prime's tits.

Probably going to get a piece of aluminum pinched off for that piece. Worst case, if I decide I don't like it, the cutouts for those will be smaller than any one piece window I replace them with, so the aluminum won't be wasted.

Went for the faux 45 split window. Seems fitting.

Got some faux glass to go along with it, which I'll put on the inside with some monkey s***.

IMG_20200128_141417.jpg

Also got the top gooped and riveted back together which was a revolting sticky ****in' operation, and if anyone needs some 1/8" rivets I have about 900 spares...

Yup. ^ That window configuration looks the best. Carry on.

Looks awesome, will even more so with a matching paint job

Landcruiser Guru! Praise the potato.

Well, the paint job sucks, it was cold and s***ty and the green crap was fighting me every step of the way, but it'll do until summer when I hope to have the sides off again at least.

I don't know if I'll bother painting the aluminum or not. :meh:

I might just use the top amby door hinges to mount the panel. They should hold it fairly solid, maybe a clip up top or something.

Or I could do a couple hinges at the top so it can swing open an inch or so to let the farts out. It won't be able to open far, because I plan to add some vertical bars to the headache rack.

Undecided. I'll think about it for a while before I drill any holes in anger.

Put the windows in the one side.

I still hate these ****ing hardtops.

If they didn't just look so damn "cruiser" I don't think I'd bother:lol:

I still need to drill and tap out a few holes to get it bolted together, but that's enough of that bull**** for today.

Hard top is finally close to done. Many annoying hours of drilling and tapping and rubber mallets.

Used plexi for the back window. It's not my favorite product but whatever.

If you're making something out of it, never never never never use a regular drill bit. Step drills work ok, or you can put a weird point on a regular one like this. Setting your drill clutch at it's weakest can save you some grief too.

After having Crow chilli for supper one night and then working inside the cab the next day, having the back panel open seemed like a good idea.

Next is some bed sides. With crap on the deck it makes the proportions look better. Be nice to make them out of aluminum,so I might make a template and take it to a metal shop, see if it's doable.
I'll either copy the top foot of a 45 box or go more like the factory Toyota trays. Two pretty different profiles, so maybe I'll do a couple test chunks.

No offence. But she's sagging pretty good for a 1/3rd of a cord.

Nothing to be offended about, it's just springs.

But it wasn't even on the overloads, let alone the bump stops, so I can't say I agree.
First inch or so on these springs is nice and squishy.

The ground slopes downhill and towards the camera there, makes the sag/lean look exaggerated.

I do also have a scheme in mind to put airbags on the ass end, but I need to put some miles on these springs first.
They're from a late 70's chev truck, picked from a rack because the dimensions were about right.

Only complaint I have is I wish the ends of the main leaf didn't have that lowering kink to them. I could lose the jumbo shackles then. Pretty good for a wild guess tho.
They'll probably sag as they break in, so I'm just gonna leave them be for now. See where they end up.

Meat Plow. Love it.

Got paint plans? The one patina door doesn't go with the overall theme. I do like the green.

The doors need some repairs at the bottom so they'll probably get something. Probably just a rub with a scratch brite pad to get the oxidation off and spot painting.
Painting and cosmetics are among my least favorite things, so it'll get as little as I can get away with.

Doors will wait tho. Hard top gave me my fill of bodywork for the next year or ten..

I think Cam was offering to help you out....:grinpimp:

Woah woah woah..... Cmon now, let's keep the gloves up.
Oh don't worry big fella, I wouldn't want to pull you out of retirement. :flipoff2:

As for the cruiser, because I get to live the dream tonight I didn't want to get into anything too intense before the pregame nap, so I folded up a little drawer for the radio hole. With mystery bronze thing that's been in a junk drawer for 10 years as a pull.

And cut out some thin light duty floor mats. Should allow the horse**** to be easily hosed out.
IMG_20200217_124855.jpg

Strangely that stall mat cuts like butter with a razor knife, tried a couple power tools thinking it might be easier, and only made smoke. :meh:

Hey that's the "Canadian" emblem from the old "c-whore", or is it the complete firewall?? Too much work to go back and sift through the plethora of technical info from this thread...
