Cut the FAT....80 series on a diet

You could get rid of ABS by removing the unit and stock MC then by swapping in a 1" bore MC from a 4Runner, unless the stock MC has only two ports on it. Bend up lines to each axle and lines to each caliper...done. Then the braking system would be really similar to a 60/4runner/t100 with disk brakes out back. If you need to, you can put in a proportioning valve for the rear circuit.

The 80 MC bolt pattern is the same as the 60/4runner, right? I bet it is.

How much do both front fenders weigh? Worth removing? And are they hard to remove?

They arent heavy at all. Also not hard to take off. I don't run them because they get in the way.

fenders are 14 pounds each, inner fenders are 19 pounds each...

Thanks.

Real curb weight?

I asked google how much the curb weight of a (stock) 80 is, and came up with numbers from 5,500lbs to 6,500 lbs.

Anyone ever weighed a stock 80 or have a authoritative source?

Just took some scrap metal in today, and after I dumped it I was at 5260. That was with 35s and my spare, no fenders (which weigh nothing btw) no bumpers or rear seats. And including me and about 20 lbs of junk in the front seat. (I'm 180 when it's a good day)

Weighed in yesterday @ 5840 with myself, my wife, and three children ages 4-12. ARB, 33's, and the rest pretty much stock.

good gosh!

i'm hesitant to weigh my 80

Mine weighs close to 7100 lol my girl is chubby! Anyone have pics on how they ridded their abs system?

may be able to round up some pics but basically just yanked it, made up
new lines to the first connections downstream of the abs and then added
a manual proportioning valve...

After what's at least 6 months of not touching my 80 I had the cutting tools out and did a little more work. First task, rear tailgate removal (~31lbs) trimmed out the lower corners underneath the tail lights (~6lbs). Still need to take a finished pic. I really need my own garage so I can work on her at night.

Next, time to chop the rockers out. Removed my sliders and front bumper and got to cutting. Taped off my line leaving a 1/4" of lip to fold back on, cut for about 2hrs. on each side, rolled in the lip.

I have yet to measure the clearance gained but it is at least 4"

AND OF COURSE the weight loss.......29.5lbs + the rear quarters at 6lbs + rear tailgate@ 31lbs: Grand total 66lbs
