every 76-80 fj40 i've seen out here has had solid rotors...

I didn't think 40s ever came with solid rotors (In the US, don't know about other markets). My 76 had vented rotors and the 77 axle that is going under my 66 has vented rotors.

It has been very slow progress but I have an update on my work so far.

I have installed the Aussie locker into my third member. This was so quick and easy, I could not believe how simple these things are to install.

I then put my third member back on the housing and installed my new Longfield 30 set. These things are definately cool, to bad no one will ever see them.

I installed my knuckles, packed them full of moly grease and installed my lukes 4x4 arms. I messed up the threads on two of my arp studs so I will have to get a couple of new knuckle studs:doh: .

The hubs got new bearings (timken) and new vented rotors. I need to pull my wheel studs the rest of the way thru the hub before I can put my calipers and lockouts back on.

I tacked my bumper into place to get a fitment for the shackle reversal hangers and the location. I made my own rear shackle hangers out of a set of dodge spring perches and the DOM tubing that proffits gave me to put thru the frame. Next I will weld these to the frame and get the axle mounted.

I also got me some tundra 16" steel rims. How do they look? I may need to run a small spacer, but I will find that out once I mount them.

details on the drive flanges please ?

They look sick , wondering where you got them ?

lookin good man...

Thanks for the replys.

Peesalot, I don't have drive flanges on there. I just have not put my aisin lockouts on the hubs yet. Those are just the ARP hub studs with the nuts on them.

Noticed you don't have a gusset on the housing . I've bent two already one without one with . Might be something to consider before you go too much further. just a thought.

Too tall, I thought about welding gussets on the top and bottom of the knuckle ball when I weld on the tabs for my brake lines. Is there where you had problems with the axle bending?

Jeremy

When you are spring over there is more leverage places on the tubes themselves . Once I bent one between the third and the perch .The other time it bent between the perch and the ball . I had jeremiah at proffits build me one that goes end to end in front of the diff and also had the balls gussetted top and bottom . No problems yet . I would maybe just do a gusset from the pumpkin to the drivers perch . unless you plan to jump your truck you should be okay.
