She’s been parked in the corner of a Norwegian restoration shop waiting her turn to get the treatment, now Kenneth and his team have started to make progress, yes she’s from Sweden and I drove her here to the Telemark region in Norway where I’m currently on contract in the construction industry.

Body work is generally not bad apart from a hole in the floor next to the cill, corners of the windscreen and the bottom of the doors, remarkably the roof is ok around the gutter line but the sunroof is completely gone, Kenneth is going to weld a plate over it and make it disappear with fibreglass and skill, in fact he’s welding new metal into all the rust damaged areas, thought I’d share it with this forum, I’ll keep updating as progress is made….

Ohh and she’s going to be Sandy Taupe colour swapped including internally, some may not like that but I love that colour after being surrounded by them in the desert in Oman during my oilfield Stint..

i love hjs. looking forward to seeing what you do!!
The work is being carried out by a specialist restorer, I can only tell him what I want, albeit in broken English 😀I’m far too busy at work 6 days a week to do it myself, plus I don’t have a workshop and more importantly the skill…..

She’s only done 220,000 kilometres, I think she was a local municipality vehicle as there are many redundant switches and two holes in the roof above the driver that indicate a spotlight was once fitted, I do know that the barn doors where for commercial use as they allow easier loading and the heavy duty steel bumpers with many towing hitches indicate she used to tow machinery about on trailers ,

Is it an 88 or an 89? Also, which sunroof did you have the metal or the glass? Looking forward to watching this build please post regular updates.

It was a metal sunroof, it’s a 1990 5 speed 2H diesel. A previous custodian had badly silicon sealed it because of leak issues, looked like it was applied with a catapult, see pic of removed sunroof panel.

Aviator, what’s that, never came across that model ?

Sorry, 88 or 89. Talk to text sucks.

Oh, that sunroof is in pretty rough shape. I’ve got a spare metal one. I swapped in a glass one.

I’m just gonna get the sunroof aperture welded shut and get it smoothed like factory finish, there is no motor anymore or controls so I’ll delete it, and while the headliner is missing from when I bought it I’ll just sound deaden it and make my own headliner with a flexible Material that I need to source and line it with grey alcantara or something.

Did all the high roof models have a sunroof, anybody know ?

So, whilst stripping down the front end to restore the inner wings I noticed this under the slam panel, it’s a cold weather radiatior blind, looks like it’s never been used, when I unrolled it on the shop floor it looked immaculate..

It may well be, It’s being rebuilt in Norway but she’s from Sweden, and i have just accepted a job in Saudi, an offer I couldn’t refuse, I have a Month to six weeks to get her back together then I was gonna store her until whenever.

IRS way to difficult to export to Saudi I’ve checked ✅

Few more photos to peruse for those that are interested, so we intended to start painting the front end in the booth but Kenneth the guy who owns the shop spotted more rust that needs cutting out, before we knew it we’d removed the passenger side wing and the front valance, headlights and panels, these will be steam cleaned and prepped for paint over the next few days, you can also see the sunroof delete, he welded in a metal plate, then seam sealed the edges, then built up the area with fibreglass, after paint you can see it’s not perfect, he will rectify this soon to make it invisible and look factory..

So we are restoring the original fibreglass wheel arch extensions, we have beefed up the back side of the moulding with more sheets of fibreglass and resin, that has made them super stiff, these will be bodycolour not black as it looks better in my opinion, in this latest batch of photos you will see I have placed a TURBO badge where it should say DIESEL, it’s going to be turbocharged at WINK 4x4 in the Netherlands when she’s back together and on the road. Yes it’s a little bit premature but I had to source a badge from EBay so it’s a dress rehearsal only .
Sorry I had to slip in a pic of my other toy on the ramp, 1977 Mk 2 Escort with a 2.1 fully forged pinto race engine 😀 she was in for Paint correction that ended in a full respray !!

My girlfriend thinks I’m nuts spending £274.00 for these OME mudflaps but I’m sure that you guys understand, EBay part no is 254472882544, these are specifically for use with the wheel arch extensions.
The front bumper was basically home made from a steel C section, weighs around 50kg, I took it to site and asked the pipe mechanical team to modify the ends and reshape it, they used scrap off cuts of 150mm diameter steel pipe and did a fantastic job, it’s gonna be Bed liner or the Norwegian equivalent of Raptor painted in Black !

274 Euro is cheap! You can’t even find non-flared arch ones even close to that 😂
