Thanks for that pic. So what is the depth of the two holes are the left? Are they the same depth?

The one closest to the shifter is slightly shallower than the one closer to the console.

Sorry, almost forgot...... 1-5/8" deep.
They are basically designed to hold small items like change or keys. The folks that designed the interior were not familiar with this product.

Are they both exactly 1 5/8" deep?

One more question. Is the hole closest to the dash and under the e-brake handle the same depth as the one directly across from it on the left side? I'm trying to figure out if I can design something that will fit both the LHD and RHD console.

That cutout (lined with black fabric) is only 1/4" deep. The console is simply spun 180° if the Cruiser is LHD.

So here is a really rough idea of what I am thinking. This would be a double cup holder that would mount of top of the two holes (with inserts that go down into the holes for stability). It would also hold a phone, leatherman, and a couple pens.

Here is a similar design for a Tacoma so you guys get an idea of what I'm thinking.

This is a 1st Gen 4Runner insert that goes inside the center console and would also be similar.

Once I get the 70 series console in my hands I should have a rough prototype made within a few days. I will also be able to match the curvature of the floor since this console is made the match the curvature of the floor. That way I will also be able to develop the double cup holder that will sit on the floor in front of the pre 90s 70 series cruisers.
here is the 62 Series double cup holder that sits on the floor just in front of the console. The 70 series floor cup holder will be similar to this.

My interior is filthy to say the least but here is the console from my manual HZJ77.

The cup holder closest to shifter is 1 5/8 deep while the behind it is just over 2" deep.

Yep, that's how deep mine are. I don't see multiple part numbers on cups so i'm assuming they are all the same and different depths

The piece with the two square holes is a separate part? How does it attach/how can it be removed from the main console section?

Anybody know how that double square hole piece can be removed?

it clips in then it's screwed down through the one cup with the rest of the console. Obviously the malaysia console is 1 piece

Then I think the best option is to get the OEM console with that piece installed. I hope to be able to just remove/replace that piece with a significantly more functional piece that will attach in the same way and look totally factory. I can just mirror the part and offer it for the RHD and LHD.

All,

The manual and auto consoles are different in that the manual is a one piece, where is the auto comes apart in two pieces as pictured in the diagram above(top if for auto, bottom is for a manual). The one I have is a malaysian replica which is one piece so I cannot fully confirm that OEM is the same.

77cruiser77: Has an actual OEM one which looks identical to my malaysian one, except for the 4 coin collectors down the middle. By looking at the pic it doesnt look like his comes apart in two pieces, he needs to confirm.
