Cup Holders? (1 Viewer)

I have an HZJ77, when I bought it, I thought it was missing the center console, but from what i am reading, some did not come with one. Anyway I found this one on ebay, the overall shape fits nice, and the mounting bolt holes line up. The only thing off is the opening for the manual shifter, its off by about 1.5", but the tcase opening lines up perfectly. If you were to re-make it, wouldnt be hard to fix the opening alignment. My cruiser is JDM, I believe this console is for non JDM 70 series, which may be the reason it does not quite fit. Hope this helps.

That's a pic of the console. Thanks. Now I need to know if the RHD and LHD versions are the same or reversed. Anyone in Socal with one of those consoles?

My cruiser is RHD, the console I got from ebay, the one pictured is also for RHD(supposedly), the fit is near perfect, the 4 screw holes line up, it fits well around all the other components, the only problem is the opening for the shifter, that i could hide it by getting another boot to go over the rubber one. I would rather have the console opening be correct then using another boot. My other change would be to make the cup holders a bit deeper as these are shallow and do not secure cups well. If you were to use this one for your model we could definitely improve upon it to make a nice console for the 70 series crowd.

I would think the LHD is identical as long as the shifters positions does not change, which I cannot imagine they do, since the same engines/transmissions/tcases are used, mine is 1HZ/H55. My other thought was this console maybe meant for 70 cruisers with a different engine/trans combo, not sure what other variations are available for the 70 series besides mine.

bhicks BTW I am located in socal, San Diego, would not mind working with you on this project

I would really like to see an actual pic of the center consoles in a 70 series and not just a schematic. In the end, my greatest challenge is going to be getting the actual consoles to work off of. I am badly going to need some loaner consoles here in Socal for a couple weeks to make this project happen.
I'll be home late tonight but will takes some photos tomorrow morning.

That would be great. So you have the actual console that is pictured above? willing to loan it to me for a couple weeks. I will cover all costs on shipping/driving/gas etc.

The parking brake handle swaps sides with LHD. IE the handle is biased towards the driver.

Is that the only difference? I could probably come up with a double cup holder that would work for both if the e-brake location was the only difference.

The shifter holes, at least in the vehicles I have access to, appear to be the same with lever cant the only difference. The rear console is notched on the opposite side to clear the brake handle.

Perfect. I'm thinking a simple double cup holder that mounts right on top of this area. See pic below. (Sorry for my horrible photoshop skills). It's just a rough idea. I will probably have a phone holder built into it as well. I will make sure it matches all the curves of the console so I just blends right in. I definitely need to get my hands on one of those consoles.

Hello,

Shifter and transfer lever holes are the same for both LHD and RHD models. The shifter angle varies to accommodate for the driver's position.

Later models (from around 1992 on) with the H15x/R1xx transmissions have the holes somewhat further to the rear, some 54 mm (2 in.) I think. This because these gearboxes are bigger/beefier than the H41/H55 used on pre-1992 models.

The center console is side-specific. The RHD model is the mirror image of the LHD one.

Other than those, there are no differences.

I can take pictures of my Cruisers (2006/1995) during the weekend for your reference.

Won't work.

When the E-brake is deployed the handle is directly overtop of the right screw hole. I think rotating it to be vertical as opposed to horizontal while encompassing the useless pen tray would be a good direction. I'll take a closer look tomorrow and see what other screw holes might be available.

So when the e-brake is all the way down it goes over that side of the console? Anyone able to snap a pic of the ebrake all the way down? Maybe a top view?

That ebay console was molded from a prado 70 series (ie lj78). The console part # is based on the transmission, with appropriate trim level. That console is discont that's why it's be reproduced in malaysia. It'd be nicer if they just left the main shifter solid and let you cut your hole based on transmission. on the other hand you can cut everything off above the horizontal storage so you just have the cup hoders and storage slot.

Thanks for that pic. So what is the depth of the two holes are the left? Are they the same depth?

Wesintl: Thanks for the insight, makes sense. Yea not many options out there for these, the malaysia ebay one was my best bet, at $80 it was worth a shot, actually fits good except for the opening. I like the finished look so I don't think ill be trimming it, but I think i will close up the opening and cut in the correct one, just need to figure out the cleanest way of doing it since it is plastic, be easier if it was metal.

The recessed area (left of shifter) is deep enough to hold most smart phones as long as you don't do a 5 G turn however the cup holders are basically useless until someone markets a square beer can.
