I had an idea watching my Matrix's rear cupholders (left side of the pic): wouldn't they fit the dashboard of a '91-'94 series 80? Some mangling would be required but as there are no airbags in those rigs, the plastic in front of the passenger is free for all to sawzall, right? No, I won't do it myself :)

What is the fascination with cup holders here? What is this, the 100 forum? Put your can in the holder by the shifter, larger cups in the center console or by your elbow. Done. End of story.

Passengers can frickin' hold their damn drink.

Doc, thanks for the kind answer.:)
I personnaly don't care about cupholders, but it seems to be one of the accepted design flaws of the 80, according to replies on that thread. So as this forum should be a constant brainstorm, I just added my 2 cents and thought that it warranted a separate thread.

Yeah, I wasn't really trying to bust your chops- My sarcasm didn't come across properly.

I've never really had an issue with the cup-holders, however.

hasn't anyone installed a kegerator in an 80 yet? just run a hose to each seat so everyone can drink from a tap. boom! no more cups.
but seriously, my cups and bottles tip and spill easily so I can understand the need for a more secure place to set your beverage

That's alot more perty than my console but where am I gonna put my gun?:D:D

Functional but oh so ugly console thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/215359-front-console.html

You could do like me and get one of those 1.09 cupholders that are supposed to fit in the window channel, and put the end thats supposed to go into the window seal into the ashtray (a useless feature if your not a smoker) Its a little bouncy so what you put in there could use a lid, but otherwise let the passenger use the console hole and you use the one by your elbow. The one in front of the shifter in my opinion is almost completely useless.

I am either going to go with the LR cup holders but was thinking about maybe a set of these: BMW Cup Holders, Porsche Cup Holders, Ultimate Cup Holder - Cupholders / Drink Holders for BMW 3 5 7 Series, Boxster 911 Z4 Mercedes Audi NSX other fine cars.

I don't know if they even work but it looks like they would maybe buy a set for d/s & p/s... Need to more research first

That's where I got my cupholders. They are excellent. If you look at the ugly console thread you'll see them. The only negative I can say is that they tend to grab the bottom of Coke and Pepsi bottles. You can easily remedy this by pushing toward the flap that holds tension on the bottles while pulling your drink out. No biggie.

Wait, that's a cupholder in front of the shifter? I keep my compass, stock cigarette lighter and gate remote in there. .)
Anyone ever thought of sticking a cupholder on the front of your seat? The crotch vent would keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Just another out there thought.

I was actually thinking about getting the sliver ones and then they would rest on the floor. The only bad thing is that I have Husky Liners and I don't know how well they would work with those on the floor

Where on the floor?:hhmm:

It looks like they would slide under the plastic and would put it back by the seat sitting on the floor just like they show in the picture... Being 6'4" that would not be that far of a reach to grab a drink and you could move it to the p/s if needed.

At least I think it would work  Might be a little bit of a stretch... What do you think???

Putting anything next to the gas and brake pedals scares me a little bit. If your cup rolls and gets squeezed behind, good luck stopping a 6,000 lb truck @ 70 mph.

This wouldn't keep me from doing it. If I really want to stop my legs are strong enough to smash any bottle, cup, or whatever in the rare case it falls out. I've had a bottle roll under my pedals more than once and was able to stop. Although it is a little scary.
