Funky ergonomics: anything to complain about in an 80?

There's a funny feature in Automobile Magazine about cars featuring "funky ergonomics".
Made me think about controls in the 80, and there's at least a annoying thing that I can think of: the triggers for the hood and gas door, similar in shape and feel, plus they're in a spot that requires some yoga moves to have a look at. Not that 80 drivers have to fill up that often...
Thoughts?

EDIT: there's one more I can think of: the painstaking removal process of the spare tire.

Hahaha how about the stupid 6 disk eject button...UNDER the center console...FACING THE REAR PASSENGERS!!!

Lets count how many times a rear passenger hit that button with their feet:rolleyes:

I could care less about controls. The suck a$$ front seats are built for 10 year olds.

or smaller japanese folk. 15 years later... i can't believe the new FJcruiser is so cramp in the rear, their intended market was definitely n. america with larger/taller people and they come up with a back seat no bigger than that of a honda civic hatchback...ah well..

actually, my old man complained about the cramp rear seats of my 80 and wanted me to just move both seats back a few inches, lol.

Yeah, as a 6'1" guy, I find myself wishing for a few more inches of leg room. I found that if I raise my seat up higher, it helps, but then I am too high to use the "armrest".

Our cars, as with our:princess: may have some minuscule flaws, but we still love them.

Alas, our favorite cars are usually not perfect, my 914 is a nightmare to get out of, but I love it too.

I'm 6'5". If I can deal with the seats you all should be covered!

One thing that has been hit on before, but is becoming more and more of an issue for me is....[drum roll please].....CUP HOLDER

I dont have the option of the replacement cup holder either since I'm rolling a '94...it just sucks. The passenger gets nothing except the cup holder on the driver side buried behind the low gear shift and transmission shift.

I addressed this a while back, and have now enjoyed MANY spill free cups of Starbucks. See my original post below:

Remember, the 80 was built for a world-wide market. What may seem like a problem ergononically for us in the USA may not really be an issue for other markets, ie cupholders etc...

RE: the hood and gas door releases: you may wish to to "Braille".
Just lightly glue a round small plastic or nylon washer (OSH has 'em) to the gas door release. You can even attach out of sight, so all you have to do is reach and feel for the one with the round washer and you will know it's the one for the gas door.

I just remember that the gas door release is closest to the gas pedal.

As far as failings:

no cupholder.

Stupid position for the sunroof controls, and I don't like the two switches instead of one switch for the entire sunroof range of movement.

Massive blind spot for turn signals (the foreign-market 80s have that blinker set into the front panels).

Manual seats don't have a tilting headrest. The tilt headrest on my SR5 truck spoiled me.

I also think the shaft for the transfer case shifter could have been a little longer. I might invest in one of the mini-truck shifter extensions if they're the same thread.

I know there's a good reason for this feature, but I still think it's a stupid PITA: manual electric antenna.

I dont like how the radio controls are so far away from the driving position.

x2, I'm 6'6" and on long trips, if I'm driving I do pretty well. Steering wheel tilted all the way up and seat all the way back, works well.
Cup holders do suck. My girlfriend ends up putting her drink (OR VERY STICKY SMOOTHIE) on that little basket thingy on her side above the glovebox... one turn and that drink (OR VERY STICKY SMOOTHIE) is all over her legs (OR MY DOORS!). :o haha bad experience.
But for me, the cupholders are all I can think about. There are so many grab points in the cruiser, and that's the most important.

I can't seem to find the right position for the drivers seat, my back is always stiff while driving.

The ergonomics are fairly well laid out from my point of view. I'm 5'7", so the cockpit is the perfect size.

I took the Camry for a long trip recently, and the comfort of the 80 is far superior in terms of long distance driving. Before the 80, six hours was about the max I could do without a (non-gas)break. With the 80, I've gone 10+ hours too many times.

Only thing that bugs is my knee hitting the OD button on the gear selector.
