Eff that - I'll just run the front axle without diff oil. No chance of a leak then!

cult I got cut short there, what I was going to say was that's the Toyota way to do it
But for a old dump run rig, wack her back together, no need to get to technical about it as long as you do it safely
Don't worry about the blue marks on your birfields as new ones usually have blue heat treating marks on them

Have been rebuilding my own front driveline since I was 18, if my 72 was on the road I would be there in a flash to give a hand old mate

If you're planning on running this for a while, you might as well do the wheel bearings while you're in there IMHO, it's a PIA to get in there and they're not that expensive.

Cult I have a 3 speed chev patten bellhousing if you need it.
I also have a chev 4 and 5 speed bellhousing if anyone else needs it as there won't be no gas guzzler in my trucks.

Haha oz you're missing out! ;)

Righto cat I'll throw her back together the way Mr. Toyoda had envisaged. HJ My bearings are pretty slick - though will confirm after 2 weeks in a petrol solution. But yes, if they're crook, now's the time.

x 2!

Went down to the truck today. It coincided with awaiting a student for work as they're in the same area. Whilst waiting I got the pax side swivel hub pulled down and cleaned.

My student took his sweet time, so I wound up at McDonalds doing a crossword and smoking rollies. But not before I discovered this. Sneaky says it's nothing to worry about. Just a bit of condensation?

Cult Ol mate pretty common to have a bit of rust on internal components where the breather is
that bit of pitting won't hurt anything as it's not where the seal runs, the seal area looks in very good condition

Cult I'm missing nothing but empty pockets running the mighty 2H. ;)
Hahaha said like a true diesel man! I am keen on those housings, but like the 2F, just gotta find a way to get 'em up here. With any luck this damn third motor will see me out and about.

yea thats fine. make sure breather not blocked.

and cult, never noticed them before, but those free wheel hubs are disgusting. get something better quality or get some drive plates. very hard to find i know but i swap you for....ahem....something nice!

Ah yep, roger that old son. Yeah I think things are pretty sweet in this department. Just gotta chase up some new seals and maybe a full kit as the swivel bearing races have roller indentations - I think she might have sat for a good few years in the one spot o_O

i find roller dents in swivel races all the time on my work utes. not from sitting; believe it is from constant miles on corrugated dirt roads. with the steer rod disconnected, and turning the swivel block, you can feel a distinct click/snap in the swivel bearings at about the straight ahead position.

put a kit through it cult. we can talk you through it.

Yeah I will. Spoke to TT and it's $119 for both sides. No rush this time like the last errrr 'build'. I'll have a crack with platy of grease and youtube vids. As for the drive plates, what are they worth to you..? You have all my early stuff!

Unless your running no front axles

I Probably wouldn't recommend drive plates for Brisbane landcruisering, even in the suburbs would be a handful

I'd go for a set of classic freewheeling hubs

The dellow like yours is to suit 4 and 5 speed and the castlemain I also have is for the 3 speed box as it even has the rear engine/gearbox mounts on the bell housing so you should be able to run the stock tail shafts with your snoring arther V8. :)

Saved from the dreaded page two! Up in Cairns and it turns out the bloke I got the original alloy housing from had a dead 253. For $50 it was all mine and we spent the night pulling her down.

It had low comp but had been built at some stage cause the slugs were +40 thou. I actually think it was probably a very decent engine prior to being parked. Very clean inside. It ended up donating a pair of heads, valve train, lifters, pushrods, new flywheel, PP, rear sump, pickup, inlet manifold, timing cover and water pump. I'll have it all shipped down to Brisbane. Just missing an air cleaner now. Best Saturday night in a long time!

Cause it's 2000km from my truck and I've already got a good runner. Can't save em all.
