Oz my only concern was getting it here and getting it in. And if there's room on a tilt tray then I'm halfway there :) thanks old mate, I surely do owe you one now. The catch was that I would have needed a ute to get it here and put it in my ute so I could then go and pick it up, in my ute.. ;)

Now all I've got to do is get the truck back to old mate Deano's yard and find me an engine crane..

You know oz I'm really touched by that son. You're a good man.

G'day Cult,

Although, we have never met, I read your thread daily. As a result I now consider you a net-mate. This is a new term I have just thought of and it means if we actually met in person we would swap a few yarns and probably become mates. So, I would like to offer another perspective that I think might help you through this difficult time.

Now, I don't want to sound overly dramatic. But the decision you make about the engine in that old truck could set the course for the rest of your life.

What I see happening here is something completely un-natural. You are trying to make a carefully considered and rationale decision, evaluating pros and cons etc. I want you to STOP right there. STOP thinking just for a moment. Stop thinking and start FEELING.

Now to explain where I'm coming from I'm going to take you back. Way back to 1987. I had just turned 18 and a mate from school had joined the army and moved to Brisbane. So myself and another mate from school decide a road trip was order and we jumped in me old HQ sedan and drove from Melbourne to Brisbane (For my US brethren, this is sort of like going from New York to a small town in East Kentucky where everybody looks kinda the same).

Now what do two 18 y.o. blokes do when they hit a new town. That's right............head to the pub. So we rock up at this pub and it seems pretty cool and despite Brisbane having a reputation for being unfriendly to strangers, all the blokes seemed really friendly. So we prop ourselves against the bar, strangely enough listening to the Village People over and over again. And started having a yack to these local blokes. I thought they must have been miners or something because they all looked like that bloke who used to the do the Camel cigarette adds and then I realised that there wasn't a women in sight. (Despite the fact that the law had changed in 1986 allowing women in Queensland to vote and go into the front bar, not just the ladies lounge.). Then the penny dropped.......call it gut instinct, call it whatever you want. But an evolutionary survival skill kicked in. We discretely said our goodbyes and acting really cool and relaxed slowly moved towards the door. A close call, but we got out in one piece.

These gut instincts are being trained out of us. But, you Cult, are a warrior even if you don't realise it. Would a rational, right-minded person choose to drive a smelly, rusted out old truck with no brakes, air con or cup holders. No they wouldn't. Only a person who is prepared to look danger in the face at every intersection would drive a truck like that. Ask yourself this? Would the German have won WW2 if Romel drove a hybrid? No they would not! Would Captain Cook have discovered New Zealand and the Philipines if he drove drive a smart car? No he would not.

You will never experience true inner peace if you make carefully considered and rationale decisions (Even if you do end up homeless and alone living under a bridge) Use the force Cult. Find a machinists, deliver him that engine and get it rebuilt, don't even ask for a quote. Only quitters ask for quotes. True warriors never compromise!! (unless they are really, really trapped or don't have any bullets or a gun - just a stick. Then you can compromise a bit).

If you were dying would you be thinking, gee....... I wish I saved harder and bought a house. No you would not. You will be thinking about all the hot chics you picked up driving that awesome old truck. Because, hot chics will fall in love with you because subconsciously they can tell you are a warrior who is true to himself. When the revolution begins will hot chics be looking for a guy who owns a house......no way. They will want a road warrior, like Mad Max with an Fj45 and survival skills and a cool dog, who makes life and death decisions based on primitive evolutionary instincts that will keep them safe.

After my experience in the bar back in '87, I have followed my gut instincts for every major decision in life. If you deny this now you risk creating a precedent for the rest of your life.

Just my 2 cents. Sorry to ramble on.

Cheers,

Ben

Hahaha Ben that's golden! Fk dude I laughed out loud at that whole yarn hahaha.

It's funny, you follow a bloke on Mud and the next thing you're offering free motors and engine swap labour cause you're now mates. It's great. And I actually agree about our instincts. This modern world is ruining us. We need more Tyler Durden's!!

However. My instincts have told me to go for the free 2F and park up the F until further notice. How did I come to this decision? Well if we're gonna get deep, I sat back and waited for the pieces to fall into place by themselves. I've always suffered massive anxiety (even debilitating me at times) and I've realised that trusting our instincts and letting go of wanting to control everything is all we have. So I let it all be. Like so:

If all the pieces of the 2F re-engine solution were going to slot in nicely, I would do the swap. If they weren't going to slot in nicely, I would await further 'instructions'.

I lunched my F. Oz kindly offered the 2F and I have a place to do the swap. But I still had no way of getting it from Coffs. So I sat back and awaited for a solution to present itself. Next thing oz is talking about tilt trays.

So in essence net-mate :) I have trusted my gut. But I'm going to buy the house too ;) because the warrior gets the chicks but the nurturer keeps the chicks :D

Wanna come up to East Kentucky for an engine swap? I promise there'll be no gay bars (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

Sorry I dont have anything as deep and meaningful as Ben but I am glad things are working out.

Putting Ben's blue oyster encounters aside for the moment, I'd like to add that the F engine pressed metal rocker cover can be used on a 2f.
Do that and nobody will ever know it's not an F engine unless they look very closely....

Thanks @Ken White :)

Now @andrews520 is a man after my own heart.. ;)

And I know where there's one with the oil filler cap up top..

Cult are you located in Brisbane or Toowoomba ?

Brisbane. Either Stretton or Browns Plains depending on where I do the swap. Both are on the south side.

Well someone's offered a shaded corner of a clean shed and an engine crane. Looks like this is going ahead.

And to prepare for said engine-swappery, I have a few questions. I have searched the web (most of which led me right back here haha), but what bolts in and what doesn't?

Cooling: rad, rad hoses, fan, shroud etc?
Fuelling: pump, lines etc?
Mounts: I heard the F holes need to be drilled out, cause the 2F bolts are a bigger diameter?
Trans: clutch, flywheel, bell housing etc? Keeping the 3 speed. Someone said the fork ends up on the opposite side??
Starter: 2F or F?
Electrical: earths, coil, leads to and from coil, carb wiring etc?
Breathing: carb, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, exhaust system etc?

And lastly, who wants to get dirty? There'll be plenty of suds and tools, and general sh1te talk, so if you're free and want to come wrench on an early girl, come down! Even if you're hopeless! We all are :D

Oh and if you need me oz I'm on 0416010223.

No worries cult but its not like we have tilt trays running to Brisbane everyday so this is something that will take time. The logistics is that I need to take it to work what's 25 K's from home and I normally ride my bagger so it won't happen overnight. I will do my best to get it there in the next week or two. The next problem is it will probably show up on a semi tilt tray so it will be dropped on the road as the trailer is 48 foot so backing into backyards does not happen unless your on acreage.

ahh... what did i say about cruiser karma?

just admiring that tojo pizza oven? in post #301. that something youve seen? now if there was ever a bloke who needed some battered correct rims and a couple old hard roadtrack majors....

I actually can't recall..?

Yeah the pizza oven pic is not mine, it's a gem shared on that other social medium you blokes can't seem to catch on to ;) I tell you what though west, those three engine-destroying minutes of maiden flight atop those old RTM's humming along Beaudesert Road were worth every cent I spent on those old tyres and rims. And I did only spend cents cause blokes like you can't give em away

You using Nikkys shed mate. I have been reading and following on the Australian 40 Series FB page.

Oh Ken, ummmm I didn't think there'd be any traffic from there over here. Keep it on the DL?

G'day Cult,

I remember reading a couple of threads about the F to 2F conversion. It sounds as though the easiest approach is to strip the old motor and transfer all the old bits to the 2F. Including water pump and fan. Otherwise you will have to find yourself a new shroud. The benefit is that it should look pretty authentic, particularly if you cover everything in a couple of litres of old sump oil.

You mention in an earlier post being a 'body' man. What's the story there? And are you intending at any point to give the ol' girl a lick of paint?

Cheers,

Ben

Cult sorry mate but the tilt tray is out so you need to work out a way to get the engine 400 K up the coast. I ran it past the boss and it's to much of a dollar hit to leave a car off for your engine so back to square one on the transport.

I'll have to look into that. As Andrew said, the rocker cover fits, so I should be able to fool the fools. As for paint, well I gotta say that that patina was a decade in the making and I'd be mad to ruin it with something as trite as new paint :D

All good oz. Thanks for even asking. I'll see what the 'Mudship is up to, perhaps someone is heading through that way. Plus I'll post on the Facebook pages I'm on and get freight quotes. Failing that I'll borrow my cousins non-Landcruiser ute, don some black glasses and a hoodie and come pick her up myself. Hopefully no one sees me in his Hilux :D
