45 PANEL GURUS.

My windscreen frame doesn't come back as far as it should, meaning there's a gap between the leading edge of the door and the windscreen frame. Because of this the above-door panel is tilted on an angle instead of parallel to the door top, and the rear of the door frame rubs on the rear windscreen panel. There's a 2mm gap between the rear windscreen panel bottom and the tub. Both sides of the cab are out by the same amount.

The previous cab was like this too, but I just thought it was out of square a bit. FYI It's a 1970 45 with a 1974 tub and windscreen panel, a 1970 rear windscreen panel and the doors are 1968 onwards [catskinner may know the exact year as they were his]. But it's all the same era of parts.

The gaps are perfect! Everywhere but the tops of the doors. Clearly the windscreen needs to come back, but during assy. I loosened all the R/T bolts and reefed on that sucker with the strength of ten men but those twist knobs will not go any tighter.

Do old windscreen base gaskets swell??

Hinges virtually parallel.

Gaps here are so good!

Lol you've lost a morning of your life you'll never get back!

Did you lose a bet..?;)
Jog me again..?

Is there some other reason why he'd subject himself to such an ordeal?
Lol fxxx you.

Got me a few trinkets today. The biggest win was 3.5" Smith's tacho, made in the UK! Also a Koito backup light, a pair of green pilot lights and just about as new as you can get horn assy. for early models, complete with OEM rubber gasket! Gonna run a red pilot light as a charge light down in one of my spare dash holes.

Saved from the shame of page 3!

Things have been happening, but tbh sometimes even get sick of the sound of my own voice. Errr, keys. Whatever.

Does anyone know if the flanges on earlier H41's are the same as later ones?

Right. Lots of things happening. Most of which was the long overdue dual-circuit brake upgrade. I'm going to say that along with the door hinge rebush and the carb rebuild this is the best mod I have ever done. Not only has the nagging fear of losing all braking disappeared, but that booster draws so much vacuum that the 45 stops like a new truck. Not even joking.

Thanks to @catskinner for the 3-to-4 bolt bracket and rekitted booster; Tim Jones [Mr. FJ] for the NOS PBR master and sneaky for the co-bleeding operation - we now have brakes! Bloody good ones too! I also have Rob T. to thank as his own conversion played a big part in the form of a set of instructions. Thanks @landcrusher909!

It's basically a steel bracket converting the earlier three bolt pattern to the later four bolt pattern, a matching lengthened pushrod to suit, the later booster and master and new brake hard lines. Boom. Oh and I repurposed the existing hand line/soft line bracketry by swapping sides.

PS> Don't judge my wiring!

I'm getting the old girl safe in case you and and Mrs. 909 decide to venture down under!

G'day Cult, Did you get your panel alignment issue sorted. I wonder if there is any chance that the top of the cowl was bend back slightly in transport. Have you measured door gap from the bottom door hinge to the back of the cab and from the top door hinge to the back of the cab? Cheers Ben
P.S. Are you making any films at the moment?

I haven't got it fully sorted yet, but need to in the coming weeks. Had bigger fish to fry. I have new waist level rubbers to go in, and an afternoon of cursing planned so hopefully that sorts it.

As for acting - yes. I'm always filming something. And much like a a 253 over F145 I'm about to step it up. I just wish I'd installed a 400 - it's a more apt synonym.

In Readiness for a Roadtrip.

So in true Cult45 style I'm making a move a 100km south to Sydney, the Australian city people have heard of. The filmmaking/theatre scene there is our nation's epicentre. 85% of the work is there. I'm taking the 45 and have been readying it for the trip. Let's not forget only a short time ago it was laid up on a farm on Mt. Mee. 59 pages of s***e later..

~ Deleted the aux tank - auto-sparky mate pointed out it wasn't vented, plus the three way tap leaked like a sieve. Gone.
~ Truck rewired almost front to rear. The front sub-harness was in good order so it stayed. Dash lights, aux gauge lights, wipers, horns, dimmer switch, indicators, brakes, reverse light, interior light - all functioning!!

~ Diff pinions and seals replaced.
~ NOS fuel tank sender scored ready for installation once..
~ ..recently discovered leak in fuel tank is repaired by radiator shop.
~ Radiator outlets swapped to Holden V8 pattern.
~ Waistline rubbers replaced. Cannot source issue for forward leaning windscreen. Will run as in.
~ Tyre mounted on spare and fitted in stock carrier under bed.
~ Water pump fixed [I hope] with gasket installation - negated during first install.
~ Inlet manifold gasket kit installed. Water leaked out of the bolts on the first run so I sealed em up with RTV and we'll see how that fares on a short road test.
~ Charge light installed.
~ Trailer plug wired in.
~ Jack clamp re-obtained. Thanks sneak!
~ Engine painted black.
~ More s*** I can't recall. Pretty much gotta make sure it'll make it the thousand-odd kays to Sydney town. Pics to come tomorrow.

Do you have work lined up?

Some role play interrogation work for the DoD, but nothing more than that. Pretty much gotta start again. Then when I eventually get to LA - start again. It's pretty much the 1/4 mile life.
