C'mob Cult. Video required, take us all for a spin man. You should be very proud of efforts. Do you have future plans for it, or this it......project complete? Cheers, Ben

Well it's almost done. Now are just little things. Replacing the tin foil engine mounts. Might make a new loom from scratch. Want to pull these spare J30's down and make a good one that doesn't leak and/or whine. Wanna paint the engine Chevy orange and make some misleading Toyota speed decals. Got a design for the doors. Need to high tensile wire the front hubs [still]. Want to paint the roof. Need to get me old mate catskinner to seal up the leaking factory tank so I can put it back in. Want to change the pilot lights to green, and use a red one as a charge light. Need to get it down to the carb shop for a proper tune. Etc.

Just been too busy driving it!

Put a few hours in this afternoon. Pulled some of the free J30 down for a bo-peep. Oil was 10% water and 90% black stuff. Ugh. Inspected another free J30 I got from a fella about 12 months back and it's superb. Tight and selects great. Only problem is the pivot cast into the transfer front snout has broken off. So I pulled that part of the ugh J30 off and soaked it in petty and trans fluid. It was whistle clean but the low range selector shaft wouldn't move. A little soaking and it'll free up.

I also wired up a tach that came with my new-to-me '74 tub. Electronic thing, probably a mid-range product when released in the 80's, but has that retro factor. Three wires and it was done! Now I'll know within 1000 rpm of what the engine is doing.

No pics. Too dark.

If there's a way to get a rural catskinner in a agricultural spec hzj75 in the eye opening modern metropolis of Brisbane it's 45 parts haha
Caught up with cult this morning to pick up the remaining parts of the cab swap, cult being a fair dinkum fella did a load with his 253 v8 45 aswell after a carb tune

Well lo and behold - the things one finds when cracking open a fresh case of 'Mud. The skinner is dead on, and true to his word he came down to the big smoke and helped cart his treasures home.

It was the 45's first major run since the build and it did decently. Every new sound and smell was heavily scrutinised, most found to be my imagination. I deliberately pushed it hard-ish to find weaknesses. Not too many. The gearbox still whines like a teenage kid and it needs a FEWA, and don't tell catskinner but I still need to run high tensile wire through the front hub assy. bolts but the truck did well. Glad I wired up the tacho cause at 95/100kmh it felt like it was screaming but in reality was only turning over at 2900rpm. Extended highway runs had me reaching for an overdrive gear.

Ended up taking the scenic route which involved some 2WD-ing and discovering the gentle creak of new sounds, but all in all for a period style truck it drives pretty well. I think once I get the floor mat in and some other NVH type things it'll be superb. But right now it's not far off.

Dropped all the gear off at the cat's and discussed the possibilities of tossing a Ford 272 F600 truck V-8 into a 45 and the finer points of fixed-top restoration, both mutually exclusive, then turned tail for home cause tonight, Jack Lives Here.

Found pics of my old BJ40 today too. Tries tracking it down via the FB crowd. No luck so far. Did a frame off on it in 2000. It was essentially a 416 hardtop that I FST'd and added factory steer [long before we were doing 60 conversions], 75 series indicators, racing green and rattle can tan [?] trim with retrimmed Recaro buckets, a H41, a fairey OD, drums all round and a 3B. That rig's first outing was the CREB track near Cairns and it was literally a piece of piss, but they say it's 'the hardest 4WD track in all of Australia', so who knows. Anyway, it was my first 40 and my first frame off on a car, ever! Saw it in 2008 in Brisbane and my rust repairs held! But haven't seen it again.

good feeling eh?

D'you know what @Indestructible 47 it's not too bad to get out there in the old girl :) but without the sheer volume of information here it'd have taken twice as long. Thanks for tuning in mate, I check in on yours from time to time. How is it moving along?

Got the rig back from the carb shop this morning. Full rebuild on the Q~Jet and deletion of 'non-necessary plumbing' ;) No pics cause it's a torrent out there. It sure is interesting driving home in the pissing rain with no wipers. Turns out there may be a leak or two too haha. As for the rebuild it started a lot easier and was so much better off the mark dead cold than it had ever been. It seemed more responsive, but I'll have to check on dry roads to be sure. I imagine trouble free motoring from here on in. Hoping to get better fuel economy than 9mpg!

Up next: rewire the truck, source leaks.

Saw a mint 1975+ 40 there too! No owner, but 2F, dark tint, big tyres and rear lift up hatch. Mint!

That's some dandy rain you got there. However, just be glad you aren't in Paris this week.

Two of my favourite things in that photo, classic Toyotas and BMW. Push the Merc into the water.
You're gonna get cut here mate but I only noticed it once I got home and saw the pic, and even then I thought it was a Gemini! Haha. The Merc was cool, I enquired about it actually. I've always wanted a early-mid 70's coupe with a Holden 5.0L and TH700, with factory Merc air, steer and discs etc. My kind of daily!

At least in Queensland the sun comes out for 10 months of year. In Gippsland it rains 300 days of year and drips from the trees for the other 65.
No sun for you!

Took the rig up Mt. Coot-tha today, which is a brief, but beautiful tarmac track near Brisbane city. The kind of place that the good people of Brisbane walk on a Sunday morning. The carb is amazing. The rebuilder, Rudi, is clearly some sort of carburettor savant, because he did the Autolite in my Fairlane and it ran like a top, and now the Quadrajet. He has literally transformed the drivability of the car, akin to my change from rag tyres to radials. The only thing I'll lament is that it runs so perfectly that he's robbed me of that beautiful crackle upon deceleration! Very happy to recommend.

Good work cult I can see you grinning from ear to ear when your wheeling the beast. How did you guys go with the overnight storm. My shed took in some water but not to bad considering we copped near 400mm rain overnight. :)

Thanks oz :) yeah it drives nice. We got smashed here and our lowest drain backed up. Still can't use it. But no leaks, in the house anyway. Did that hi-comp 2F get drenched?

It's still out in the wether under a tarp. I gave it a good squirt of oil in all cylinders so it's still good. No flooding on my property just heavy rain with 90mm stormwater that can't cope so plenty of gutter run off around the house and shed. I have 150mm pipe to go in but I hate digging trenches.

Yeah when it comes down in Oz oz it sure comes down.
