Haha yeah now I watch that back I sound like a pair of clown shoes, but I was referring to how stable the donk is when it's at idle. It's a good little motor.

Plugged all the vac line leaks, adjusted the steering box and that joint in the front frame rail, wired up the indicators, bled the booster and went for a burn. Yeah, and I accidentally stepped it out round a corner. So yeah. Sorry catskinner, might'a shortened the life of one of those soon-to-be-yours RTM's a little..

Tomorrow: first big job - moving house for a mate. [20 mins to his house + 20 mins to the new one] x 4 = break in run.

That's why you're better off with a flat tray, easier to load stuff in from the side. I don't do that sort of thing, so don't need a flat tray.

Yeah but once your 45 is out on the road people will get to know you and soon you'll be roped in. Then you'll have to - out of courtesy - bequeath that styleside tray to someone else. Someone on the south side. Someone who's truck it'd suit better

Gearbox needs help. In every gear it has that bearing squeal that you get when your water pump bearing is toast. A shuddery-squeal.

I plan to pull the box, but in the mean time is there a fix that will let me get some wheel time prior to this? My standards are pretty low..

How long has the ute been sitting round? Could it be surface rust that has developed in the humid weather we've had and its now wearing off? Could it be the surfaces of the new parts wearing in?

Change the oil in the gearbox and transfer and if still persists, change it again and see if theres new metal in it.

I run Redline heavy shock proof in the 6 speed hogley box 75/250w and it's good s*** but not cheap. Castrol also have a good gearbox oil to suit the landcruiser gearbox vmx-m but do some home work on this type as there might be something a bit heavier.

Box has been sitting for only 10 months but now that I think of it it whined before. Never had an engine to put any significant miles on it.

I'll check the gear oil for metal.

Thanks @ozcrusier but I don't wanna dump a heap of good oil on something like this. By 'quick fix' I meant something backyardish, like slinging two tubes of grease inside as someone suggested. Still not averse to that idea.

Cult the transmission may just need a service with a good quality oil. I remember banana skins where used in the old days to quieten noisy diff and gearboxes before selling the lemon. These days I would check what Nolon or Wynns sell.
