Cult have you rebuilt the mastercylinder or did you just replace the wheel cylinders. I also guessing you have a aftermarket PBR booster bolted to the mudguard on the old girl.
 
Cult me mate, you may not find any of these things to be the problem but you will get a postive look if they are or aren't with out spending coin
Clamp the line? If you clamp the front brake flex line all fluid goes to the back brakes so it "may" push the offending air out, dont cost much if anything but it mite work and give some you some wisdom of whats happening

oz me old the master is a brand spanker (don't let the faded reservoir fool you, I put the old one back on the new master), the wheel cylinders are shiny and new, stainless sleeved and rekitted with all the freshest of parts (including red grease, which I assume is pretty flash due wholly to the colour :D). Yep, got an aftermarket booster bolted to the firewall. I'll find a pic. It's some old thing that definitely works cause after a few pumps the old F gives a bit of a shudder. Probs from an FJ55.

cat you're right. Process of elimination. She's a single circuit so I'll isolate portions of it and give that a nudge. I guess I'll go get a brake line clamp.

I would check all the brake lines are tight on every wheel cylinder and the master cylinder as it sounds like one of them might be pulling air in. Did you bleed the PBR booster after you fitted the master cylinder. When bleeding brakes you always bleed the brake thats the furthest away from the master cylinder so in OZ we bleed the left rear wheel then the right rear wheel. The front left and then the right hand front. I alway have an assistant pumping the brakes 4 or 5 times as hard as they can then tell them to hold pressure on the peddle while I crack the bleed nipple open and drain the cylinder. To make the job cleaner alway fit a clear plastic pipe on the bleed nipple and then into a jar to catch the old fluid and see when all the air is expelled. Catskinner way of clamping the lines will point you to where the problem might be as it will take out both front brakes but on old trucks you must be very carefull as the line are old and normaly presished from age so go very easy on clamping them imagine the iner hole through the rubber pipe is around 1/8 inch round so the clamps will need to be 1/8 inch open so you dont crush the old pipe. Clamp both rubber hoses and then jump in and pump the brakes if you get a rock hard peddle the problem is in the front brake if not clamp the single rear line and pump the brakes again rock hard problem in the rear if it the same ther problem is in the master. I would double check all your work fitting the mastercylinder and slavecylinders first and make sure all the lines are tight.
I use a small pair off vicegrips to crack and nip up the line but some of these tools look good

Thanks oz me old. I did exactly as you say, though I bled the booster first. When I go to do it again I'll bleed it last. I didn't bleed the master. We bled the clutch master when doing that but funnily enough didn't think to bleed the brake master. Is it just a case of cracking the tube nut on the end and pumping as per a normal bleed?

We started furthest away and worked our towards the drivers front. I also have new flex lines and every single union bolt and tube nut is tighter than a fishes arse and leaks no drops. I'm starting to think there's air in the master. So I'll check that out when I get back to the truck and bleed him up again.

Went out to the truck again today, the last day before I'm headed back to work for a week. Hopefully it turns into three. Busted out the brake fluid again and got ready to pour when I noticed this:

Give em a week and I reckon they'll come up a treat. The white paint was thick as sh!t and was only preceded by primer, so in answer to my own question about 25 posts ago 'who the hell runs white rims??' well I reckon it was Toyota. Interestingly enough on one of the bands I found this stamping:

Hi Dan. In an earlier post you were replacing the door seals but your doors are still rattling? I've been thinking about investing in some new seals, not for the weather but for the damn noise. Not worth it?
 
sometimes its not the door itself rattleing but the window glass, on these original condition old girls the felt channel that glass slides in gets hard and worn. Have herd it called bailey channel it that helps
 
Yeah in mine it is the window in the channel that rattles. From memory Pete your doors close nicely, so I'd look into a window/1/4 glass rekit. There's the bailey channel that the glass slides in, the 1/4 glass seals (though I reckon they're more of a 'if it ain't broke' type deal cause they're an utter pain to replace) and finally the window regulator (fancy name for the thing that winds your window up). If the regs are worn then they rattle too. I'm not sure you can rebuild, I think it's a matter of replace. If you're really bored and deserve another Christmas present then bugger it, get the seals and get busy on Boxing Day!

Or if you're lazy, you could just drive my 45. After one trip in that you'd get back in your late-model rattle-free troopy and forever hold your peace.

Thanks Pete, you're a good man. Hey, while I gotcha, if you're ever back at Huxley's, you reckon you could see if they've got a half-decent muffler kickin around for a 2" system? Only needs to look pretty :D
 
Went back there last week, mark (son) put me onto the aircon guy. They both mentioned you and your enthusiasm for their truck. I think they were pretty chuffed that you were so excited. Point is, if you called them yourself they'd know who you are and you'd also cut out the least knowledgable link in the conversation.
