Ah cool, yeah I was afraid I'd be a weirdo calling up out of the blue. Yeah I'll give em a call tomorrow. Thanks Peter

Nah I'll do it. Wouldn't mind heading to see the lads anyway.

Just thinking out loud here about 6 months in advance. Would a set of 1975+ doors fit on an early tub? Thinking the problem areas would be:

A) striker.
B) windscreen panel fitment to door.
C) different roof length?

The later doors seem to seal up a bit better, but I want to retain the overhead wipers and the early tub. Shame, I do like the metal interior on the earlier doors. But I dig the one piece glass, especially for such a big bast@rd like me. Gives the impression of more space.

I wonder if you can graft the window frame from of a newer style door onto the bottom of an older style door?

Well I've returned from out west on my single week. No progress on the house deposit with rego due 01/01/15 and Xmas on the way, but progress on relaxing and Landcruiser time! So I guess it all works out in the end. Went down to the truck today and chased up a few tiny things. Installed a flasher relay. Now I've got indicators! Cleaned out the cab of sh!te. Moved the Darth Vader light to the hole under the ashtray. Still needs to be wired. Checked the brakes - no leaks but still no fix [I guess my 'leave it sit for a week and see if it sorts itself out' method didn't work. It might take a bit of effort, but I'll try it again next week. I'd stripped two of my white [wth??] rims to bare last time I was home and so I mounted them up. They look great [thank you SEQ storm season for the patina!]. Took it for a small drive around the yard. Smiled a lot. Noted that my speedo wasn't working. Pulled the cluster to find the cable unplugged. Reconnected. Not a lot done but jeez I enjoyed it. A nice change from usual frantic 'gotta get this done!' arrangement.

Now comes the sad bit. I've got to sell my BJ74. Well I don't have to, but it'd sure add a nice, fat, creamy top to my house deposit. Shame, I brought her in myself from Japan back in '12 with a virgin 92000km on her and she's never let me down. But there's bigger things in the works than just an old *sniff sniff* Landcruiser. The good news is, Deano [who's back yard - or should I say slab, I've been using to get the 45 running] has a 2013 VDJ79 that he'll sell me for $2k. Low miles, lifted blah blah blah. Of course that's complete bullsh!t, he's got a 2002 Hyundai Grandeur that he can't sell for $2k, so it's mine for a grand. 3.0L Mitsubishi V6, auto, leather, CC, PS, AC, discs, 170k km, dead straight, blah blah blah. Apparently it was $70k new! So I will sell the 74, use the Hun-day [as our American brethren call it] as a DD and register the 45 on club rego for weekends and dump runs. And probably driving every day haha. In an odd way I feel liberated by the decision. I love that truck, don't get me wrong, the damn thing is flawless, but in the words of Tyler Durden:

Quick question: the Grandeur is EFI but I reckon it isn't getting fuel up to the rail. The tank was dry and the engine hadn't run for 6 months. It runs briefly on 'canned accelerant' :D

Do you need to bleed a petrol EFI system?

Gotta do what you gotta do....

There's always a little valve on the fuel rail you can push to see if there's fuel pressure. It will squirt out of there if there is. No pressure, see if you can hear the fuel pump...might be a fuse or relay...or the pump itself?

Good luck.

Thanks Andrew. I've been googling and it concurs with your findings. I'll be back there today so I'll chase it up. Cheers.

Thanks 47. Good man.

Went down to Deano's today. Messed around with the Hunday but couldn't find a schraeder valve or anything remotely similar. Checked fuses, looked at it and realised it's about 45 years too new. So I chucked a charger on it and walked over to the 45.

I gave the engine it's longest run since I've owned it. 20 mins idling. My weeping t-stat has stopped weeping! Or I could be low on water [because it hasn't stopped weeping]. I'll find out tomorrow. The temp gauge climbed up but only to about 2/5 to the top. Does anyone know at what point is too hot?
I added one of those flat clips to at flex line/hard line joins. It was actually part of the stand for a cheap soldering iron, but works perfectly! What a champ!
There's two screws on my carb. Which is which..?
And my patina'd split rim, ready for hubcaps.

After taking the 45 for a spin around the yard I stupidly began messing with the screw in pic 1. Why? Primarily because I'm an idiot and secondarily because I'm a curious idiot. And we all know what that did for the cat. Well shortly after I took it for another yard lap and it ran like s***. I can't remember where it was positioned before I started messing with it. Is there a way to adjust these two properly? Even if you're a carb/timing moron?

Thanks Troop, you're a good man.

Went down to the yard today. Got the Grandeur running for 5 seconds. There's a broken vacuum tube that plugs into an electrical whatshisname next to the other electronic thingamajig. So I guess it's that.

Toped up the 45 with water. Took a litre. My t-stat started leaking again. Same spot. No biggie. Messed with the richness/idle screws a bit. Seemed to run better. Perhaps it ran like sh!t cause it was hot and messing with the fuel? The old mate across the road [home mechanic] donated a newish 1 3/4" muffler with some tube to the cause, so that'll be going on soon. Turns out the OD of 1 3/4" is a bees d!ck smaller than the ID of the 2". An exhaust clamp should take care of the rest. It's for show anyway.

QQ: Does back pressure exist..? I've heard arguments for both sides. This is in relation to gaining torque after the muffler is installed. I know manufacturers use flow inhibiting headers [as opposed to free flowing extractor type headers] because it creates torque, making the car more 'driveable' = more sales. But is it the same with a muffler?

Thanks west me old. Hey tell me, is there a quick way to adjust richness/idle speed/etc on an early F?

Made it down to the truck today and installed the free muffler the old boy across the road bequeathed me. Before and after. I basically cut the existing pipe off with a cutoff wheel, cut slots in it so it'd close once clamped, slid the newer smaller pipe in and clamped it up. So quiet now! And I've solved the question about back pressure. She's got some pickup now! :)

Haha mate, no action there. The transport company is fluffing around, which actually annoys a little. I get it this Wednesday, fingers crossed!

Oh well, good to hear it may land in a few days! Then you can get into wrenchin :D
