Good info to know, it’s always too late upon your ‘first’ time and learning. Thanks!

Looks like the trees guys did well, hopefully nothings bent. LCs are tuff!
This is common. With state farm in have agreed value on 4 vehicles. They don't specifically limit mileage but I can't daily them. And with my lightning due to its newer age I had to show it's rarity and exceptional cost to build.

We got the tree off the car yesterday. Here are a couple of pics. I’m hoping to get it towed tomorrow or the next day so that I can get an assessment of the damage next week. There is a portion of the roof that did bend down/inward, but the sunroof glass is intact.

Looks like the tree service did a good job of limiting the damage. I hope it’s repairable. You might need a new rack, though.

Is there anyone living in the bay area that has a recommended shop? I’m not sure I want to just go to a generic body shop recommended by my insurance. If I recall, there was a place that focused on Land Cruiser restoration in Marin, or maybe further north of the GG bridge. I’m struggling with search functionality because I don’t have power or Internet at my house and have to do everything on my phone with barely a bar of connectivity.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I use the Toy Shop exclusively for all LC work and he is A+. He does not do body but you could possibly try to call and ask him who he refers to. I know a lot of shops in SF refer body to F. Lofrano & Sons. I'd think there would be an A+ body shop on the Peninsula that is well-versed w/crushed vehicles / top damage. I'd also make sure the shop you choose is well-versed in insurance work.

Please please take this to a higher end shop, not a big box store like Gerber or Maaco. Depending on the materials, it might not be repairable (Toyota likes to use a lot of higher strength steel that can’t be repaired with heat). Looks like it may need a roof and either a quarter panel or full uni-side depending on how much of the outer roof rail comes with a replacement quarter panel. I deal with this stuff for a living so feel free to DM me with any questions!

The driver side passenger door, and the hatch have creases right near the opening, so I haven’t opened either of them. But the other doors work fine. I think the insurance company wants to tow it so that they don’t incur any additional liability if the suspension is damaged.

A few more pictures.

That's a perfect candidate for a Maltec conversion.

These last pics shows damage that is repairable. The big question is the big roof dent on the left side.

Can you open all the doors and tailgate without issue? If so then you still have a fully function 200 that you wont worry about wheeling :)

There may be areas that can easily be punched back from the inside and others that can't

I would see what the insurance company has for you, and decide from the

That left side worries me, keep us posted! As @cruiserdan this would be an awesome candidate for a Maltec conversion. Have them cash you out and then buy it back and use the proceeds for the conversion!

That rack looks to have helped a lot, but might have transferred weight and damage away from the roof panel and into the rain gutters. Hard to tell for sure what’s better or worse.

I hope you can get it repaired…but if not, I’m looking for a 2016+ chassis/frame/drivetrain for a body swap with a no-sunroof body.

Redwood City ford use to have a good shop off el camino but they tore it down recently to put up more apartments. Not sure if they moved their shop or not but worth looking into

Body shops in the Bay Area have apparently been swamped with work due to the recent swarms. But I finally got an estimate for the reparis: $32K. I have yet to see the detail and am waiting for the insurance company to sign off. I know it requires roof, hood, and all four door panels to be replaced and/or repainted, plus a new headliner. Assume 5th door (hatch), too, but need to see the detail.

Body shop is telling me insurance does not allow for any repair that is not exactly to the spec of what is being replaced. I would have been up for swapping for a black headliner, doing Nori Green Pearl paint, and putting on ARB front and rear bumpers (at my expense, but w/o repainting the originals).

On a slightly related note, have been driving a 2023 Defender 110 while my LC is tits up and have been surprised by how well the Defender handles itself on the road.

I don't know about the rules in yiur state, but in the past, I've taken a payout check from insurance and had the repair done however I wanted. It wasn't up to the insurance company to dictate who did the work, how the damage was repaired, with what materials, or in what color.

Keep in mind you may be into the repair a lot deeper with a black headliner. When I looked into doing a black headliner, I pretty quickly realized that meant also replacing lots of other bits with black parts - A/B pillar trims, rear window surrounds, hatch surround, grab handles, A pillar speaker covers, and so forth.

The concern with taking a payout is the actual repair will likely require supplement charges when they get into the repair. For a large job, I would avoid a payout. I'd call the insurer, as most don't care. I added a bull bar mostly paid for by Geico with no issues after a deer strike. The repair shop maybe the actual party that does not want to add the other parts. Not sure why insurer would care.
