Is or has the 80 series Cruiser ever been rated, I mean as far as like half ton or 3/4 ton, and if not, what would it hypotheticaly be rated at, and what determines what a vehicle is rated at, brakes, h.p. drivetrain strenght, payload, etc. I thought I remember hearing that stock it can hold something like 1700 lbs, what can it hold with the OME heavy duty springs, anyway just looking for some info on how much I can realisticly put in my rig and how it compares to other trucks and suv's

did a similar thread a few months ago, with discussion of the rear axle strength.

My guess from what I've heard about the rear axle is that would most likely not be a weak point, I think it's a 9.5 inch full floater with axles as large or larger than a Dana 60, but that's just what I have heard and seen, and I have not checked out your other post yet, thanks for the feedback

Some board members tow large boats or trailers and at least one member operates his 80 with a GVW well in excess of 8,000 lbs. When I am fully loaded for the lake my CGVW is close to 11,000 lbs.

Are you super charged Dan? I was debating (I searched) flat towing my 40 through the mtns from Denver to Moab. Based on what I read, it didn't seem that was a strong conviction it would be ok. It would work, but would there be any excessive wear on the engine.

Yes Ken, I am.

I also have water/methanol injection. That would likely not be required with your fuel metering. The 95+ fuel management seems to deal with forced induction better than the earlier rigs. My boat weighs about 3700 lbs full and we pack a bunch of crap in the Cruiser.

I recommend that you pay a visit to Christo to see if your new aquisition is suitable for a blower. If so. I would be delighted to supply one.

I hauled a trailer load of drywall scraps to the dump yesterday. Had the chance to get on the scale - trailer & 80 both. I was surprised when it said 8800+ lbs. Really hadn't noticed much strain or steering/braking issues on the way there. Of course I'm at 700 ft above sea level and the terrain isn't much like the drive up I-70 to Eisenhower tunnel.

Romer,
Flat towed my 40 when I had it no problem. One morning I was cruising along on 80 doing about 80. Oh, crap, I forgot the 40 was back there. Looked back, all was cool and slowed down a tad. :D An 80 will flat tow a 40 fine. Course, this was near buggerville and not in CO.

All I know is that at 6500 lbs. my rig was to 'heavy' to compete in my local truck/tractor pull. The limit was 6000lbs. Guess the little Ford and Chevy boys were scaird to have their s kicked by a little japanese :princess: .

I flat towed a '73 FJ55 with mine  - weight wasn't an issue, but it was a little scary when that SOA beast started swaying over 55 :D
