That'd be great. First weekend in may :). Are you going to be able to talk mark and jonah and the rest of the crew to making it 2 in a row?

Good call, I will talk with them this week.

Wes, when will you be setting firm dates for 06?

I believe it's always the first weekend in May however the dates fall. I know the cottonwoods suck. I hate them too and I was in a little tent. From what I understand the committee has looked at different venues in the past and I'm sure we'll do so again. I think Michael had a good point about informing participants of decisions. I'll bring this up and if it's at slickrock again hopefully we can communicate to registered participants why.

Hi,

Sue & I are still down here in Mesquite, NV exploring the backroads in the area.

Sue & I would like to thank all of our trail guides at CM05; Greg & Brenda (E-Hill), Robbie & Nakman? (Kane Creek), and Jeff & Brian (Fins) for all the extra help they provided us rookies. We enjoyed all the runs especially the Fins (most fun) eventhough Sue wouldn't let me drive and Elephant Hill by far the most interesting although a bit long. We'd like to send special thanks to Brian and Robbie for driving our 74 when the trail got too difficult for me. BTW, Wes, the Kane Creek is at least a 4 or 4+ when compared to E-Hill (3+)

I would also like to thank Stanger Toyota in St. George for the excellent service they provided in banging our our skid plates and checking over our 74.

Brian, I'll send you our pics of Kane Creek when we return next week and Wes we'' go for that highway run next year.

I think I managed to talk Sue into returning next year, proving Wayne can upgrade our 74. We'll need a new front bumper, rear locker, and some sliders. as suggested by Jeff, Eric and Michael.

Regards,

Regards,
really? i heard you did an excellent job of wheeling a stocker through the trails...
BTW, looking froward to seeing you at mountain aire this weekend so don't be getting lost...
Berni and i will be there on Friday so if you are early that is fine...
cheers

Hey Doug, Sue..
Sounds like your still having a grand time in SW Utah. :)

On Kane, I heard the rocks that were stacked for the jeeps on tues weren't there a few days later when you came through on the run. We did talk about how that trail is underated and may upgrade the rating for next year. Kane is 3+ maybe a 4 in the 2 spots. You need to do a 4 like Steel Bender or Hell's. I'll let Micheal tell you about the 4+ ;)

Do you have an email. I'd like to send some great photos not resized for you. I have a great one on SOB hill.

Hopefully you can make it next year and you drag wayne and a few other alberta 7x's We still have a few easy trails to do if you don't get to the locker and sliders ;)

Oh yeah Wayne don't let doug fool you that stocker did pretty darn good. Give Doug an arb in the rear and take off the PTO so he has a better approach and he'd be unstoppable.

The same thing was said a few years back, for those two spots. I was simply amazed my stock open BJ42 made it up the 1st spot with no issue (right side). The second required a few tries.

Sounds like everyone had fun...

Perhaps next year...

Hi,

Wayne, Sue & I won't be leaving Mesquite until next Friday, we should be coming through Calgary on Victoria Day, maybe Mountainaire on Sept long. We plan to head over to Monument Valley for tomorrow and Tuesday, Celine in Vagas on Wednesday, and caddy for Sue on Thursday (temp forcast is for +40) Sue did 75% of the driving so she has to get the credit. You could spend a lifetime exploring the trails in this area.

Wes, My E-mail address is dougejohnson@shaw.ca, pictures would be nice. When we get home I'll send what we have off to you. Next year we'd like to try a 4 just to see what they are like but not anymore rim trails. I'm with Michael on that one. Any suggestions? Kane Creek should be upgraded to a 4. One other thing about that trail is that there is no margin for error. There is no way Sue would have driven that trail if Robbie had pointed out the Jeep at the bottom of the canyon at the beginning instead of the end.

Regards.

Don't pick cliffhanger then :) Of course robbie saved it til the end, I think it was purposely placed there though.

My .02 on Kane cr.
Ths winter saw exceptional moisture there and washed the trail from a 3+ to a 4. Last year most stockers could make it through. It's all new in the lower part this year the road didn't even take the same course that it does now!

Cool, sounds like fun.

When we were there a few years back the trail leaders also said it was closer to a 4, if not a 4...simply from those two obtacles. We had to wait at the 1st one quite a while for all vehicles to make it though, with some getting hung up on the left side (easier side that year) near the drop off.

I thought the lower section that wanders through the creek area was a very nice drive. Elephant Hill takes the cake for sheer beauty though...

I guess I am a little late .......but it was great to wheel with you Wes and check out you RHD 74 Doug
Being completely new to Moab, I could not believe the traction.
Rob (HJ60) and I BJ 70 registered for mild trails until we could get a feel for what it was like. ( I am not real comfortable with heights, Rob is fearless)
We did fins and things(a lot of fun and for me......had I not just witnessed the guy in front drive up that angle, would have said, not possible) OH and the tire tracks on the stone give it away also:)
We did Porcupine rim and really enjoyed Elephant Hill.

The following week we moved up to canyonlands capsite to meet some guys from Ottawa Valley Offroaders and friends from Calgary.

We did Seven Mile Rim (Very glad not to have a sprung over 70!! Can you say side hill)Cliff Hangar(Ever hang onto your own oh s*** bar:) ) Hell's Revenge, and Kane Creek(water was 3-4 feet in a few places) definately more than a 3+.

The ultimate hariest for me was Moab Rim. All I can say is I was never so glad to get back to flat level ground in all the years I have been wheeling. At one point, I was negotiating an obstacle......It was a very off camber steep climb.
Every time I would move forward the front wheels would unload(read lift)and inch farther to the offcamber side(unlocking rear allowed just enough less friction at rear to allow the turn and climb) This is a very decieving trail as everything is off camber even when it looks level. It was the only trail where I felt undergeared (4.56's,34",H-55/2.31).
In Well's book it is rated 4th most difficult, and I don't think I would want to tackle it again( There were just too many places with 0 tolerance for mistake)

For the record it was getting dark and we were travelling at a faster pace(because of this) then was appropriate (for me anyway).

My hat goes off to the TJ's who seemed to handle this trail better because of lighter weight and much better sidehill stability(top off) than my 70.

If you have never been to Moab..........it was the trip of a lifetime for me. It was really great to see all the other Cruisers, put some faces, to names, and see country different than any before.
