now i am not sure where i heard/read this but wasn't there a idea of 70 series flood into MOAB next year?
if so then i am there, not sure which truck i will bring but to run with a bunch of 7* series would be a blast...

Well I do not want to be negative here but if we do flood Moab it is not like rising run or TLCA will acknowledge the diesel crowd. We will just get called "that other weird stuff" AGAIN! like 2005.

I was so disappointed when at the dinner they mention how many 40’s and then how many 80 series and they just called everything else “that weird stuff”. I find it disappointing considering how many people can over to check on my rig and the other diesels and then to have the group that puts it on not even say a word about us. Very very disappointing :frown:

weeelll then maybe we need to get together at Moab at a different date from when the crowd is there...
maybe...

No respect for the 70 series even though it's the direct replacement for the venerable 40 series that put Land Cruisers on the map...even though it's the only HD Cruiser still manufactured today...even though it will rival the 40 series in production longevity...etc. etc. Like I said in Chat...even the gay FJ gets its own banner in MUD...not the 70 series though.

Personally I really don't care and the Rising Sun has great respect for diesel rigs and there is probably not many other clubs in the US that have had a varity of diesel cruiser come through it. IIRC only 4 70's were there and only a handful more diesels. If you ask me it is wierd stuff compared to the rest of the 150+ mini, 40,60,80 cruiser rigs. It's no different than the folks with 3fe's following, 45lv, the 25's. It's great to have a good crowd and there are a ton of 40 and 60 parts that fit 70's if something happened and I needed a part. I had tons folks on my runs comment on the 70 and in return I had just as much respect for tacos, minis, 80's whatever.

If anything I say show up at CM06 so we can show the rest of them up.

maybe they are just jealous?
i know Jeff from Rising Sun has no problems with the diesels... i would love to show him what the 97 HZJ75 he had has morphed to now...
cheers

Wes,

See that is the weird thing, all the people I wheeled with were great and wanted to check the diesel's out, just as I was checking out everyone elses rig. I think it is more and organizational mind set than the actual members. I would also agree that the more they see the 70's and other diesels perform the less they will ignore or not recognize us and real cruisers as well.

cheers,

Michael

Sorry I took it a Bit personal being on the CM comittee and a rising sun member. Folks worked real hard to make this the best CM ever. I think they know were all the REAL cruisers. The 70 is on 25 years, the 40 only made it 24 years :) Those silly 80's and 100's don't even last 10 years in production ;)

Wes,

Ok for the record and so everyone know it...You guys did and AWESOME Job!!!! This was my first year and I would surely go again in a heart beat. Really I am not just saying that I thought it was very well organized, the inspections the registration, the dinner...it was pretty good and the way they were able to serve all those people so quick, that was amazing. So as far as the committee and Rising Sun two cheers gret job.

My other comments were not ment that I am upset, just that if you are going make a comment about any group of cruisers you really need to say something about all of them. The only other negative thing I heard was about the awards, I think it might be people do not realize how you came up with who won and why, probably perfectly legitimate and well thoguht out bout since the group as a whole is not aware they tend to question. I had the same thing happen to me last year at Pismo when I have out 3 $100 prized for cool cruisers, when I announce who won I had to make sure to explain why and who the competition was it is amazing how that does go over better. I really don't want this to come off as nit picking or negative just some observations.

The event was great and as a first timer I would recommend it to everyone to at least make it out there one in your life if nothing else. Oh I could never recommend "hell's revenge" I did not like that trail, too many cliff's and opportunities to roll your rig down a really big hill :frown:

Cheers,

Michael

Hey... NP. I'll bring this up to comittee.

If anyone wants to comment on CM05 good or bad and doesn't want to post PM me or email me

Give it time, people aren't used to them because, let's face it, they are a rarity in the US.

Sh*t, I showed up at GSMTR in 1996 and there were three, maybe four 60 series on the trails, I took my share of crap for showing up with a "station wagon". Nowadays even the diehard 40 guys grudgingly admit that the 80 series can wheel the snot off most rigs.

One last comment. The 100 series is still made in a heavy-duty version in some countries. Pretty bare bones, pretty rugged, and well-equipped, pretty damn beefy.

Wes, this was my 2nd Cruise Moab, and inspite of all my vehicle misfortunes, I will always remember this as an awesome event. You guys did such a great job, and I really appreciate how you keep it so low key. My only suggestion would be to add a "Carnage Board" where you could keep score of how many birfs were broken, axles, pinions, drivelines, etc. as well as roll overs. It would be fun to compare from year to year and see if new and better equipment really makes any difference. Here's to CM 06!

Hey guys, what sort of off-road preparation to yourself and your vehicle do you need for these gatherings? I'm not much of an off-raoder, and flipping my 70 would be very un-cool (it's my daily driver).

Hey Moose,

First and formost you really must go through you vehicle and check everything out from tight bolts to brakes, bump stops, even the ubolts that hold your axle on, shockes tires, check for any leaks check all the fluids in you rig. etc etc.. Once you have done that you need to find out what others are bringing that have the same type vehicle that will help you cut down on parts you may want to bring. I would say the bar minimum might be a great spare the same size, perhaps extra drive shafts if you have them, I bunch of trail breakdown stuff like duck tape extra belts, it really depends on what you plan do on the trails. There are trails for the inexperienced drivers so don't think you have to be a wheeler for 20 years to run the trails. However don't pick a 4 or 4+ trail if you are very inexperienced it will just hold up the rest of the group on that trail.

I think a lot of what happens and breakdowns are do to not checking out the vehicle before hand really good. Then there is some that is from mistakes, and most of the mistakes I see is people are in a hurry or they let that echo thing get in the way and did something beyond there level. And finally there is that wierd stuff that just happends.

I will use me as an example, this was my first time to Moab and I have a truck that is pretty new to me, I made sure I took it out before going to moab to get farmiliar with it, even after I made some last minute changes, based on what I thought I would need I still tested it out. Also I knew that I was going to pretty much take 4+ trails and really give this crusier a work out so I decided since I had the room I would bring a complete front axle for parts just in case someting in the driveline broke. luckily nother broke for me but the parts got used on a freinds cruiser. I also brought a bunch of tools but in was a last minute though stuff together so I forgot some tools I really needed to do axle work not to mention I completely forgot extra drive shafts. So you see preperation is the key to having what you might need.

On other thing I would strongly make sure you do and that is make sure you have clevis hooks and good anchor points on your rig, in Moab you never now when you or someone you are with will need a tug or tow.

I best thing I found on the trails that I picked for moab is that everyone on the trail was experienced and when someone did break it was usually a very fast fix because everone had been there before.

I hope this helps somewhat. I plan to post so checklist for Moab on my website, but it will take a little time before it is posted.

cheers,

Michael

That's true...forgot about them "poverty packs".

Moose.. It's hard to tell in your avitar if you have a lift. Honestly the people I see break the most are on tougher trails obvioulsy and their trucks are usually farther from stock. I had 7x16's(31's), OME, and a lockright in the rear. I did everything fine upto a 4+ (hells revenge) I did take some easy spots. I know there is a thread about going to the rubicon and having a min of 33" tires. I think it's almost true for moab if you don't want damage. Most of the easy trials are really easy except for one or two ledges or obstacles. That said the 74 with flat springs couldn't get up and needed a strap on Kane creek which is considered a fairly easy trail. I think Fins is the easyist out there. If you have a good mechanically running truck with a mild lift like OME/belton, 33's and don't have a lead foot I doubt you would break anything. If you had a completly stock truck the only thing I would be worried about is maybe some slight body or rocker dents. I dinged up my running boards slightly more than they were before but other than that I had no issues and a great time.

FYI: it's been requested a few times, as has the 45 pickup and waggie stuff.....and a 75...

they are done by a volunteer (not me), so I take what shows, when it shows, and am not picky.

Someday the rotation will include most everything from toyota that's related to trucks, including T100's and all....someday....

I hope to have a 74 by Moab 06 or before preferably.

Talking about Cruise Moab 06, I have already looked ahead and plan on going. It makes senese for me to plan this far in advance or I will never go.

I hope to see a pile of Canucks thier next year, so plan up your holidays around it. It was Sheldon who sparked my interest as he is planning to go next year with his family.

That'd be great. First weekend in may :). Are you going to be able to talk mark and jonah and the rest of the crew to making it 2 in a row?

Wes, when will you be setting firm dates for 06? I was with Dave and Paul on Cliffhangar and we plan on coming next year as well. We for sure won't be staying at Slickrock but we want to be where everyone else is. After this year at the campground I think I'll take the motel 6 like 2004. It would be great to find a place that is more of a group setting, I didn't even know half the stuff that was going on in camp untill I got back and starting reading my posts from the LCML.
BTW guys, Hell's revenge isn't that tough, I ran it in a stock s-10 blazer in 93, if you take all the bypasses it only ruins your rockers.
