Rzeppa, sent u question vía pm.

His answer is no, you can't wear your wig on trail runs! :p BLM will revoke their permit if you do. :whoops:

We received the Roster for those attending the Kokopelli Overnighter and it looks like a great group. Thanks Jeff for your help in getting us all squared away for this run.

You're welcome, and hopefully it will remain set!

Just after I had replaced a cancellation for the San Rafael Swell run with a wait list registrant, I got another cancellation who happened to be on the Swell. So I need to contact the "next man up" and see if he wants to do the Swell. Interestingly, the Swell filled up far more quickly than Kokopelli did, and the wait list for the Swell has a lot more people.

My operational guideline is "when you put the clutch in or put it in neutral, does it roll or stay put?" If it stays put then leaving it in gear is acceptable, otherwise the parking brake is engaged.

I see the inspection form says the e-brake test for an auto is the brake will hold the truck in gear. If it doesn't, is there an acceptable alternative ie. wheel chocks?

Thanks
B

Will wheel chocks work when you are going down a hill and lose your service brakes due to failure? :steer:

This is an important safety consideration.

The "parking brake" is no longer considered an emergency brake in definition or practice. Most will barely slow a moving vehicle. But I understand the rule.

Well, I kinda figured that too.. It's just that the inspection form looks like it says wheel chocks and line locks are ok.

I've still got a couple weeks to get more grip built into that sucker!

Thanks Jeff

Probably the Lone Warrior saloon. ;-)

We started a welcome thread for the Kokopelli participants in this forum under clubhouses, Book Cliff Cruisers, Kokopelli Team Members. Only a few folks have checked in there and we'd like get to know all of you before Tuesday morning. Please check in and give us a little bio and rig info.

Thanks,
Ace

Huge thanks to Rising Sun and everyone who helped make Cruise Moab 2013 a big success.

BUT got to say something about the Slickrock Campground. Every year I vow never again but I guess the bad memories dim and I come back. But this time was the last! I was camped in the SW corner with two big trees overhead that were badly infested with tent catapillers so we literally had them crawling all over us and there was a constant rain of their poop on us. Really nasty and unsanitary condition. Last year I heard there was a new campground being built that would cater to groups like us. I would gladly pay a higher registration fee to get another venue that was a step up from the not so slick Slickrock Campground.

Thank YOU for helping out, Ace! As for the venue, there is really no bearing on our cost because that doesn't factor in to registration. Registrants are free to stay wherever they like.

I thought the caterpillars were a little worse this year than in the past, but at least there wasn't any cotton, and it didn't rain (or snow) very much. Ever since we got Slickrock to clean the bathrooms twice a day last year and again this year it really seems to have helped out.

Our big expenses include insurance, permits, shirts, the big tent and all the tables and chairs, the dinner itself. We even spent a good bit on raffle prizes too. Expense a lot of folks may not be aware of include Sat phone rentals for our trail leaders, the truck rental to bring all that stuff from Denver, lots of office supplies, and even replacing those canopies we use for safety inspections that were wrecked in Tuesday night's wind.

One thing you can be sure of is that 100% of proceeds go back to philanthropy, and NOT to Rising Sun. We donate thousands of dollars every year to land use organizations such as Blue Ribbon and the Utah 4WD Association.

I wish you would lower the registration fee instead - ever since the CM at area BFE, the registration had almost doubled with no apparent added benefit since the headquarters moved back to Slickrock

I know of a growing number of people who have paid registration in the past but chose to wildcat in recent years because of the higher cost - since some of those people are experienced wheelers and could serve as trail leaders/gunners/volunteers but are now lost to the official CM event

[I am not talking about myself, I couldn't attend this year :frown:]

just something for the CM organizers to think about

Huge thanks from this guy too for your work on the event. As an event organizer myself, I understand the level of work that goes into this and the hundreds of hours that each of the committee members put into it. Sometimes it can seem like a thankless job but let me say....Thank You! I don't feel the registration is out if line. These things cost an incredible amount of money to put on and knowing that the extra dollars are going to a good cause is good to know....although I think you should do a better job communicating that. The previous post was the first time I've ever really heard that you donate excess profits. The event this year went incredibly smoothly from my point of view from the registration to the trail rides. I only have a few recommendations for improvement.

1: Move the Venue! If its not cotton, it's caterpillars. I will say that the restrooms were much better maintained this year so kudos to the SR staff for that. But the venue has serious flaws mentioned above that cant really be mitigated. I, like dozens of others, would love to see the venue move back to area BFE. I understand this represents a significant cost increase but that may be offset in increased sponsor and participant interaction. Dunno. Spanish Forks has been discussed and that's another good option.

2: Provide a real dinner. At $13 a pop this year's dinner was the weakest yet. A hotdog and hamburger are giveaway meals in my experience and previous years have had memorable meals.

3. More merchandise. I fully understand how hat it is to judge how much to buy but by the time I got in, almost everything was sold out. I intended to by a hoodie, a long sleeve shirt and a couple if kids shirts and all were gone.

Again, it's an awesome event that I will be back for next year. I know the committee values input afterwards and hope they once again tally up the recommendations and praises from this years attendees. Great job once again. Thanks.

Jonathan.

Hi Claudia, I know you are a Cruise Moab veteran so you you know how things go from one year to the next. One of the big things that we started in 2010 at BFE was that big tent. That allowed two things, we could have more than 130 registrants because Bar M was restricted to ~300 or so dinners and people for their fire code, and it allowed us to do more things because of the tent.

But that tent costs around $32 per registrant. Our registration has not doubled, ever. When we first started out in 1998 it was around $95 (IIRC). It was $175 this year. It has increased for sure, but so has what that registration has gotten our participants. We lowered our fee from 2010 at BFE since we weren't providing showers and toilets like we were there. The thing with BFE was a huge amount of work for our volunteers in providing that infrastructure, it was just too much and we had a lot of volunteer burnout. In fact we are facing some volunteer burnout this year as well.

Our main goal, year in and year out is to provide the highest quality TLCA sanctioned event in God's country that can we can possibly do. We want every participant to have their very best experience and have the most fun they can possibly have. We want it to be affordable, but we also want it to be the best quality that is reasonable. We work our asses off all year long to put on the best week ever for our TLCA friends. And we are all volunteers and we donate whatever's left to land use.

Well said Jeff. I don't know too many places we can get and give back so much to our hobby for $175.

Can you do something about my $1000 gasoline bill though? ;)
