A little follow up. I wasn't comfortable with my welding skills so I sought the assistance of a professional. I mocked up the part, tack welded the bits together, and took it to B&K Fab. Bud MIG welded the hanger to the box, then at my request he TIG welded a piece to the front of the box enclosing the front. I'm very pleased.
Larry and Pierrette suggested I have the piece "heat treated" to help prevent failure in the heat effected zone, which is what happened the first time. Bud annealed the piece with a torch so this time it should be bullet proof.
Sorry, no pics. I forgot my camera at work. Why is my camera at work? Because the irises are stunning right now.
