Now that you are back safely, what's the story on the driveshaft?
And the springhanger?
I never got registered, so here's my mallcruiser at the beginning of Behind the Rocks, heading in alone. Note the 275 Michelin LTX M/S street treads. Caught up with the official run at the high dive/upchuck obstacles. I didn't try high dive and I didn't get a picture peeling the front bumper corner off on upchuck. Didn't make it, so I took the bypass. Stayed with them to hummer hill, then headed back early so the kids could swim before dinner. Next day was in the Park, and Moab was awesome as always.
I'm thinking expedition-type trip for October (assuming Ashleigh's school schedule is accommodating for us) if others are up for it.
I passed some 80's and 40's headed south on 191 today (I was going north in my green 40), was that any of you guys headed home? I called on the CM 2m frequency but got no response.
Looks like you guys had some fun. The ARB rep, TR, came down from CM to Farmington and wheeled here today. Nice guy. I'll have to post up in another thread the crap we got into around here today.
Carnage to Da'40 includes some minor stuff and some major.
On the way up Up Chuck I snagged my gas cap and bent it real good resulting in leaking fuel. I had an extra.
On, or near, Double Whammy I twisted my driveshaft.
While looking at the driveshaft somebody noticed my passenger front spring hanger had ripped the frame and was pealed down. Sorry, no pics.
While getting dragged around the Body Snacher the tow 80 pulled me into the rock and busted the passenger rear marker light. Just the plastic lens.
Then while getting dragged out of Golden Spike the FZJ-80 towing me sheared his passenger steering arm studs. We were able with the ham radios to communicate our issues with the base at BFE. They sent up replacement studs. We didn't get off the trail until 9pm. CB? There is no going back. What was nice is we all came down with smiles.
We got back about 1:30 this morning after leaving BFE ~10:30, going to Moab for more souveniers, stopping at Canyonlands to get stuff for planning a future trip, stopping in Farmington to see my sister....
I've downloaded the photos but haven't had time to shrink any of them down small enough to post on MUD.
My carnage consisted of a paint scrape on the front bumper and a lot of scraping of the bottom of my reciever hitch and trailing arm mounts.
E-hill was probably my favorite, even though it was the toughest for my stock truck. Lots of scraping and bumping but the scenery was unbelievable and there were very few people we had to share the trail with. We lost a bunch of time when a guy rolled his truggy so there wasn't enough time to experience the two hikes (the slot canyon and to the confluence overlook) but it was still pretty amazing.
Fins was ok. I successfully ascended the first hard obstacle and decided to take the bypas on the rest of them. It got kind of boring after a while, with the same stuff over and over. Probably the neatest thing about Fins was that I got to wheel with Christo Slee and Jeff Zepp. Jeff is a really nice guy and gave me lots of advice. He also took pictures of my truck doing some of the harder stuff.
Chicken corners was really more my style in terms of wheeling difficulty. I drug the receiver once. The scenery was good but it didn't beat E-hill.
Despite the crappy weather and me feeling sick for most of the trip, we still had a great time.
