I will be camping at the Area BFE. This is about what I figured. It's not too much trouble to put it up/down. I'd probably just take it down when I don't need it so I'm not caught off guard by winds.

Anyone doing a Moab Shakedown before they go? Nothing hard, it would suck to break something before anyone leaves.

A shake down on Sunday was discussed. I might need to. As some might recall when I took Da'40 out to the Puerco for the first time we noticed the drag link was, well, dragging on the springs. Luke has fixed the offending arm, and I hope to have it back by then. I would like to take that trail again and see if the arm rubs.

It's close enough that we should start talking about who's going up when, and if there will be any caravans.

My plans are to leave Wednesday morning (4/28). I'm open to any time suggestions for anyone that wants to caravan.

I will be leaving Wednesday morning.

Make that three trucks. Ellen and I will be heading up Wednesday morning as well.

This also might be a good time to talk about the route. Marc - the last couple of years, Jon and I have been going west on I-40 to Gallup, then north on 491 through Shiprock and into Cortez. However, that road (491) may be under construction for widening. Maybe Steve can give us an update on the construction issue. Highway 550 up through Cuba and Farmington is another option.

As far as timing, we have been typically hitting the road around 7:00 AM. That's an early start, but it allows some leeway for construction delays, lunch break etc. We have been trying to get there around 3:00 - 3:30 to allow for truck inspection before they close. It will help a little this year, since Cruise Moab HQ is at BFE (south of town), so we don't have to drive all the way through Moab to get to the inspection.

Early is fine with me. The kids can sleep in the truck if they aren't awake when it's time to leave. I have no prejudice toward any particular route. I drove the 550 route many times when I lived in Farmington for 2 years so it's familiar to me but the negative is that we have to slow down to get through Cuba, Bloomfield and Farmington. On the return trip on Sunday, I will likely stop in Farmington to visit with my sister and BIL so I won't caravan past Farmington on the way back.

Just a warning, with the kids, I've got to stop about every 2 hours for bathroom breaks. They're old enough it's not a big production but it's still something to keep in mind.

Anybody starting to get excited yet?

Geez, are we there yet! I'm ready ... so, so ready. I say we rock n'roll NOW. We can find something to occupy ourselves until then. Right?

Oh wait, the boss, work, cats, blah, blah, blah ... [sigh]

Sounds like a plan. I may have to see about a job bagging groceries in Moab. Anything to just be able to hang around there.

I lived there for a job in 1978-1979; it was a cool little sleepy town then. Not even recognizable now when I go back. :frown:

Ya'll have fun at CM, I may see or talk to some of you on 2M on Sunday when I'm passing through on the way south.

Now that's amazing! The bridge was undergoing massive renovations last fall when we were out there. It's hard to imagine this little bridge.

Definitely - it would be great to see you and/or talk to you on Sunday, May 2nd, but I imagine most of us may be hitting the road early to get back to the Abq area. If nothing else, try the radio and you may get somebody.

Trail Assignments!

The trail assignments finally showed up. I was thinking they better be here pretty soon. I got:

Thursday - Cliff Hanger
Friday - Behind the Rocks
Saturday - Golden Spike

All should be a blast. Can't wait! :steer:

New rear pads installed yesterday. Not much else to do other than a new battery. I am chomping at the bit to get on the road early Wednesday morning.

I'm hoping to get new diff and t-case fluids in mine before this weekend. I'd also like to regrease and put new clamps on a couple leaky CV boots but I may be too optimitic for that.

We've also got to get through the tech inspection on Wednesday afternoon. I don't recall what time that closes, but I think it has been 5:00 or 6:00 in previous years. That may mean leaving early enough to get inspected before Robbie's talk starts at 3:00.

I think it would be interesting to hear what Robbie has to say, but a 6:00 AM meeting time at Rio Puerco would likely require leaving my house between 5:00 and 5:15. I could probably be talked into that, but I'm not sure I'll convince my lovely wife. We may end up with two groups on Wednesday - the super-early get there in time to hear Robbie group, and the slightly later get there in time for tech inspection group.

I was concerned about my late arrival time on wednesday, so I emailed Hants. He replied with, "Tech-in and check in will be open early on thursday morning so we can get every one on there trails".

The more I think about it, the less I think any of the Weds morning group will need to hear all of Robbie's session. He covers basics like; 1 spotter, how to give hand signals, and things like that.
