Today I was driving with the cruise control set at 60mph and after about 1/2 hour the cruise seamed to drop speed for about a second or so. Continuing it got worse. When I turned off the Cruise the speed stabilized with no speed bounces. On the return trip exactly the same. After returning home I noticed the ECT was on. Any connection?

I assume this is a '93-'94 vintage? That's a common indication of a failing cruise control ECU. I haven't asked, but it's possible this is something that @Engineer8000 can repair.

I have not looked at one of those but there is a first for everything. Is this a common problem?

One other thing the OP might consider, check the tension on the cruise control cable that runs from the electric motor assembly to the throttle body to see if it has too much slack. My 96 model Cruise control had similar behavior (felt like it was hunting for the right position, on/off/on/off, then disabled itself) but this only happened on slight hills IIRC.

IME, the ECM fails to recognize a/the sensor input(s), but I don't know what the root cause is; I've never opened a failed unit to inspect the board.
