Question - I have an extra FJ60 rear defog switch, can I use it to switch Aux Lights?

Just curious if there is something special about the switch that would prevent me form using it as a simple lighted rocker switch to turn on/off a set of driving lights.

The Aux Lights are set up to use switched ground to turn on/off. Will the switch light up? Will it burn out? If this is a dumb idea?

Just thought it might be a clean solution - no cutting a new switch into the dash, as it would mount perfectly into one of my empty slots on the dash.

Thanks for the feedback...

i'm sure someone could find a reason not to, but i'd like to do the same thing. i'm currently using my antenna switch to operate my e locker in my 62. nice clean factory look! what lights are using because i'm having trouble settling on a set?:cheers:

You need to use a relay to handle the current. It's a fairly easy install.

The PO of my rig used a rear defogger switch for the aux lights.;)

Thanks guys...

I have a relay set up already, no real power through the switch.

As for lights, was going to buy an IPF kit from Costco, but wouldn't you know it - Sold Out before I could. It was relay, two lights, mounts, wire harness and 100w & 130 bulbs (4) bulbs total all for just $179.

Should have jumped on it when I saw it the first time. Oh well, I'll get something like the IPF's but now I have a switch ready and waiting.

Cheers
