Dude, don't hate....I'm working on getting All Terrain tires. Those came with the rims that were on the Tundra Sport package in 05 or 06. I've been eyeing the Cooper STT or the Nitto Terras Grapplers or Dunes. I don't mud or rock it and it's not my DD but this vehicle is used for the family camping outings to the beach (i.e. Hatterras, Vogel GA, Blueridge Mountains, Dreher Island,etc.. and one day to the grand Canyon) pulling our Fleetwood Bayside popup.
I enjoy learning more about my 80 and will work on modding my truck like getting an OME lift kit and hopefully a 4x4 Lab or IPOR bumper... but the funds are tight with 5 kiddos :D

It's a work in progress and I have plenty of time....

HEY FJBen... What's the status update on your wife's 80??? Fill us in..

Not hating, just surprised to see that. Its like a good looking woman with gnarly man hands. Just not what you expect. I fully understand the slow process. I finally have a used OME lift on the way after looking for one for months.

With 5 kids....good luck. I have no time or cash with 2. just don't start them in club sports if its not too late:)

Status is that it was totalled. Which is strange, but none-the-less. It doesn't have a salvage title (vehicles over 10 years old don't get them here) and honestly it's not totalled. But thats what they said.

You start adding in labor/paint/etc to get it back to excellent shape that it was in, and it adds up VERY quickly. Blue book isn't very good on these.

This was my wifes rig, so we will probably drive it and then look for a 100 series for her and then sell this go. We went to look at a 100 this weekend and our 80 felt WAY more solid that in, missing bumper and all ;p

It's still nicer than MANY 80's I've driven even after this  she'll be lookin' cherry in no time.

My body shop is either a bunch of crooks or he orders everything that goes with it and replaces ever possible related part. He gave me a price of around $1,800 to replace a front bumper ... but I am sure he included everything behind the bumper as well...brackets, assemblies, and what not. He is super A Type that way.

His argument is that it is easier to replace everything is it lines up perfectly. He does not want to be twisting and bending pieces to fit in to place.

Either that, or he is a crook..:)

Not that one. Around 600 bucks list for everything.

FJBen,

So I guess they totalled it and you bought it back for 1/6 of the price, right? Well save up and buy a Slee Shortbus or ARB ($200 cheaper w/o winch). Then get a body shop to touch up the any minimal damage to the body...
My Shortbus weighed over 250lbs... If you go that route buy the smaller AC drier to tuck up under the bumper or get the ARB and the AC drier cover plate.

Slee rocks! I just wish mine had the OME springs and shocks when I bought it.

Oh I've built up 2 80 series nicely with Slee parts, and I'm only 1 hour away from Slee. THis is my wifes, not getting built up unless I take it over and build it but I don't think thats gonna happen. It's kinda of pointless/overkill to have 2 80's for my usage.

Here's my other builds

FJBen... boy I feel like a silly Newbie... WOW Your past and current rides are awesome!

Wow, given today's depreciation on cars, not suprised it was deemed salvaged. Since you are not fixing up, and building up, What will you be asking for it once you are ready to sell it? It has the magic dial right?:)

No worries, I haven't been posting much lately.

Still not sure on how long we are going to keep this one. This is the only 80 we've had that doesn't have lockers :frown: which wasn't that big of deal because it was soooo clean and just my wifes DD. THe engine and underneath is VERY clean.

It will depend on how/if we find something the wife and I both like.

Glad everyone is OK and congrats on the new baby! This could be a blessing in disguise if they paid you enough to make a good downpayment on a 100 series + you can keep the 80 to work on yourself as time/$ allow. Good luck with everything. BTW, do you mind saying how much the ins co. sold it to you for? I've always wondered that.

Really cool rig! I also like the combo of slee bumper, Lexus and low profile tires. Both the 80 and 100 series looks awesome. Your past and current rides are awesome!
