Time to get an ARB bumper!!!!:D

This one isn't my rig at all, it's my wifes. She's had it for a few years now. It's the only cruiser I currently have :frown: and it's basically stock. The last one I sold to pay off debt, and hopefully we'll be debt free after taxes. Built up one 80 we had for 5 years and sold it to get find a 40. We decided to have another kid (who was born Jan 14th) and needed the 80 for room so I traded my 40 for it. Needed to get out of debt so the built 80 went :frown:

I don't forsee me building another 80 for awhile...theres absolutely no money around :frown:

The DNC went good, so hopefully things will be back to normalish...my poor son had to get stitches for his circumcision, he got thrush, jaundice bad enough to have him on the lights at our house, then the DNC and now the cruiser wreck... It's been a busy two weeks.

but yeah, it's kinda tweaked. The hood rubs on the front, doesn't shut right. The door doesn't shut the same or as easy at all. All the other doors easily and smoothly lock in, this one doesn't anymore. It's not rubbing on the fender at all so something else is goofy. lights are falling out of it, and a new vibration is coming through the steering wheel that wasn't there. THe check engine light came on (coincidence or?) the a/c lines I'm sure just got smashed/split. the framehorn on the end is bent a little. I'm a little worried about the doors/hood being off mostly.

The ladys insurance is one I've never heard of so I can't wait to fight this one. Here's a few more pics.

Ben,

They are going to replace the whole front bumper anyway and IF you want to go with an aftermarket bumper like the SLEE ARB or ShortBus, definitely tell the bodyshop to order it. I just spoke with Cristo at Slee and for the shortbus shipped to the east coast is $1150 total. IF you went with the normal Slee ARB nonwinch style it will be a couple hundred less. BUT the bodyshop will do what you want because the oem bumper and ends and pieces come up to around $750 without paint and prep. The Slee bumpers are already painted with a black coat and only if you want to match your 80 then you need to work with the bodyshop. I just went with the ShortBus and no matching paint for the bumper.... But based on the estimate, I managed to have the shop touch up some other spots on the SUV that was within the range of the estimate...

Good luck with it!

Glad nobody was hurt.

Poor Cruiser :frown:

That's a 3,500 dollar dent.

Bummer, glad nobody got hurt. this job is between $3,500 and $4,200 dollars. (Ask me how I know) You should work something out with the auto body shop and you can get the ARB/Slee bumper next to nothing on your part. :D

That is a cheap estimate for all that damage...!!!

I too am glad that your wife was not injured.
The FJ80 is a great safe car for the wife and kiddos (that's what we used before getting the Sienna).

Not to hijack your thread but I just wanted to give you my ordeal and inital estimate for reference. But it sounds like your fender is jammed into your door jam based on the squeeking door issue. That will definitely add more than my estimate since mine only states to replace the fender trim and repaint...

I had the same thing happen just to me but it was a Toyota Highlander that hit me trying to cross a left in front of me over double yellow lines. She first hit me in the front bumper then my momentum and her bouncing off, ended up hitting me one more time on the front rim side. My airbag didn't go off either.. nor did the ladies in the Highlander. It was about a 35mph impact.

Similar damage:
Front left bumper and side fender flair.
Also hit my Enkei rim and gouged the edge and messed up the alignment.
Receiver/Dryer hit & AC sprayed out
Cracked parking light cover
Bent up bumper pieces and near the turn signal light.
other misc damage underneath.... body alignment etc..

Estimate came back at $3062.71

The other insurance has agreed to pay for all and if there are any issues to adjust then just call them back. I'm letting my body guy deal with them and I have copies of all estimates and etc. I am replacing the front bumper with the Slee ShortBus Bumper :bounce:
I'm so psyched!!!!

Here are pics of the accident from my ****py cell camera

I believe the OEM Bumper is around $1,800. An aftermarket bumper is cheaper and it does not have to be painted ... which makes it even cheaper yet.

Ben,

Glad to hear she is OK, that is the most important thing.
Also glad to here about the new birfield changing assistant.
Also glad you sold the last one! :D Thanks again for delivering it.
I got back from Iraq yesterday, and was stroking the ARB on it. Heck I was checking out everything on it. It is our 3rd 80, but first with an ARB.
Hope all goes well with the insurance.

Gladyour wife is ok! Hope the other party does not have FARMERS INS. THEY ARE TERRIBLE! Do not settle injury claims quickly. Send wife to the doctor and make sure she is ok.Sometimes injuries show up days later after the shock has worn off. You can sue the other side on your own to fix your car. Good luck. Mike

Welcome back! if you could PM me your address, I just found the large bag o receipts I had for that 80 and forgot to bring it down. I'll get that sent right out to ya. Get out and wheel that rig!

I hope it's not a $6-7K damage or that rig is totalled and that doesn't give us enough money to buy another cruiser (without payments) for for 7~8K

I will probably swing some sorta bumper out of the deal for sure :D but it's the wifes rig so it's her final say.

Not that one. Around 600 bucks list for everything.

good to hear your wife came out of that unhurt...would hate to be the other driver and see the view of a big fat cruiser comin atcha! hopefully youll be able to sort it out proper with the other persons insurance. id definitely go arb or slee aftermarket...should come in close or less than what putting an oem one back on would be.

Here's the initial quote for the work...hows it look? It appears they are going for used parts if I had to guess.

Total quote is: $2922.44

Yup, used bumper and headlamp. Switch them to new parts and my $3,500.00 guess is pretty damn close.

So a mild crash can indeed get your 80 totaled, given the dramatic decrease of our rigs in value in the past year...

If I were in those shoes.. Its a used truck so used parts in good shape are fine with me but the stock bumper sucks even when its not damaged. I would DIY it for the most part. I'd order a ARB maybe from tellico4x4 like I did when my stocker got tweeked by a low speed impact with bambi.

I'd look for the same color in online salvage yard parts system and get the fender and front panels. If I cant find the color I'd pay a body guy to shoot them to match before I installed them. Since its just the frame horns I would get the factory body specs out. If the frame is bent it is not by much and confined to the front horns so I would get a long machinists rule out and measure the front to see how far it is out of wack. If its just pushed in to the center a bit I would rent a porta-power hydraulic ram and spread the horns untill the ARB slipped on.
