I have used the "starter bump" method to loosen the crank pulley with the engine in the car.

I now have another engine that is NOT in the car. How do I remove the crank pulley now? Before I separate the transmission? After I have separated the transmission?

You use a torque mutliplier.

You could also use the starter, but that's a bad practice. Using a torque mutliplier and an impact wrench is the safe way to do it

1/2” impact with a big air compressor zips off 99% of the crank bolts for me, sometimes I need to use a crank pulley holder and a 3/4 inch breaker with a 4 foot handle to get them loose. Look up 1fzfe crank pulley holder there is lots of info out there on them.

I bought a crank pulley holder tool from a member here. If you search around, you can probably dig the seller up. Or if you have patience and drill press you can probably fab something that works similarly.

CPACruiser is the member on here you are looking for. He sells a really nice product on Etsy.
I have one. Very well made.

If you do this while hanging from an engine stand, make sure you support the engine weight on the outer end and support the arm hanging out, or you're going to tip it over or break the stand.
