I was going to replace my exhaust heat riser gasket tonight and when I got it apart, I found a nasty crack in the manifold. What worries me more than the crack is the condition of the exhaust flange where the donut gasket goes. My options are limited as I have a PTO winch so that rules out a header. I posted in the wanted to buy section for an exhaust manifold. I'll post up some pics of the issues in the morning.

Well, good luck on finding an un-cracked exhaust manifold for your '71...
Some people have had good luck with brazing or welding their exhaust manifold cracks...
Isn't there one header out there that only requires a little grinding on the tailpipe flange to clear the PTO? Thought I saw that mentioned here once before....

A 2F manifold should work...should it not ?
Unless the need for a 2F intake / manifold set up is required.
I ran a 2F set up on my F155 until a header install.

Now that you mention it...why not 3FE exhaust manifolds?

(oh, to use a 2F exhaust manifold on an early F, wouldn't you also need the 2F intake manifold? And bigger, or step-down, studs for them? )

One good thing is there is no indication of exhaust gases leaking through the crack. I am going to do a little grinding on the exhaust flange to try and get the donut gasket to seat. This is a short-term fix as I intend on doing an engine swap in the future (2F or diesel, haven't decided which way I am going yet and depends on availability of a 3B or 13BT).

The threads in the intake manifold for the heat riser bolts are trashed. I think that is part of the reason the heat riser gasket failed. I am thinking about trying to use a heilicoil in these two holes as a short term fix. Worst case is I have to find a new intake and exhaust manifold. If I was keeping this engine set-up, I wouldn't mind spending the money. The sad thing is when I moved from Ohio back in 2007, I gave away 2 manifold assemblies for an F.

they're out there, if reckon1504 would check his wanted ad:p:D

3FE manifolds, I don't think will work, someone posted the differences along time ago, the 2 different gaskets, you could see the holes didn't line up
