I am about to respray the interior of my 1969 40. I have a new oem gas tank. Should it be body color or black or? The one I pulled looked original and was black.

Also I have searched for rattle-can matches for the oem silver color...not much love there. Anyone have any fresh info here?

I have been scouring for a 69 sales brochure that shows the tank...striking out.
Were they ever black?

No ones got a rattlecan match for the silver other than JT?

The tank on my father's '69 was painted black. He sold it back in the early '80's, but I believe it was fully stock.

Mine are all black, and I have had 4 in my possesion. So black is stock, however, on a 69 I think it would look a whole lot better if it was painted body color, with some nice black powder coated straps holding it in place.
Thats what I was going to do on my 69 until I replaced the floor with a new post 73 model from pilgrim sheet metal.

Black or flat black. New OEM tanks are that color. Silver (pewter) straps.

If you want the stock colors that is.

I sorta figured black was stock. Much of my truck was unmollested. But the tank had been previously patched up so wasnt sure if the black was original or not.

So how about some rattle can pewter/silver??? I have tried a few and they arent even close!

I got a kit from ccot paint/reducer/hardener.

A trip to Harbor Frieght for an inexpensive HLVP sprayer and I was a painting fool. Easy to do. There is lots to spray bumperetts, stuff on the dash, front bumper, windshield wiper motor, seat rails...

Rattle cans would be nice though. I never buy stuff from jT's as a matter of principle.

Off topic but... crazygreek - where do you find a Pilgrim floor? Are you talking about the stuff at CCOT or some other source?

Sweet pic dusty is that you? That a 66? I have lots of black paint...but still looking for a cheap silver/pewter.

Ok so the ccot silver is $pendy...I am not doing a frame up resto...just want to clean some stuff up.
I am sure its good stuff and a good match...but thats more than I am spending on paint and primer for the whole interior of my 40! ;-)

The search for a rattlecan/cheap enamel alternative continues!

That kid in the picture is my Son now 26 'Yes that was my 66 before picture in the 80s

I used the CCOT Silver on my 66 project,Its Ok but no Cigar !

but have found a better paint closer to OEM is Rattle can, Dupli-Color T 408 Pewter is a dead match IMHO.
