Cork gasket or cork gasket w permatex

Several of you guys have helped me with my timing cover gasket and front crank seal. Got the crank pulley back from sand blast today and getting ready to put it all back. As you know the gasket for timing cover is a vertical gasket. To help hold it in place was thinking of small bead of permatex beteeen gasket and cover. What do you think?
 
Nothing but the gasket on the 3FE - I'd assume that it would be the same for the 2F.
 
I did not use any sealant on my 2F cork gasket. Those little tiny bolts do have specific torque numbers tho that would be for a brand new off the line truck so don't go to wild. I just used my box wrench and it has been fine.
 
Well, you want to leave the bolts to the TC loose until you install the Harmonic Balancer. That way, you center the TC seal around the HB. If you have everything ready to do all at once, then a little Permatex (or Hylomar) is ok, but let it set up for an hour or so before you torque the TC bolts, otherwise the RTV squeezes out.

I don't like RTV on cork gaskets, personally. If you're gonna use some, the "The Right Stuff" by permatex, or a Permatex no. 2 - or Hylomar is great but kinda spendy.

Apply liquid thread sealer to the two bottom bolt threads (as recommended in the FSM) and install the OEM gasket dry.

If the cover and mating surface are buggered up, then a little bit of Toyota FIPG wouldn't be a bad idea.

And this is why I had to use the box wrench. Because once I go the HB on (I had left the bolts loose), I could not fit a torque wrench in there. I remember clearly texting Ryan, "hey I can't torque them now!" duh.
