Noticed coolant leaking on the ground today under my wife’s ‘16 GX. Snapped these pictures - can anyone help me narrow down what could be the culprit. There’s a little bit of pink residue up near the radiator cap but looks somewhat dried. Most of the pictures are from underneath showing the location on the brush guard and looking up towards the radiator.

Welcome to the fun world of coolant leaks! I just discovered one on my rig, although mine looks to be from the water pump.

Looking at your pics, your leak appears to be mainly on the radiator cap side of the engine, so my first suspicion would be the radiator cap itself. What condition is it in and do you see signs of leaking from around the cap going down to areas in your photos above? If you are lucky, that will be a cheap issue to fix. Otherwise, it may be radiator related? A pressure test would confirm if so.

I had the same leak marks. mine was from a tiny crack under the upper hose plastic tube. I tried to use JB weld but the crack was in an a****** of a spot so I ended up replacing the radiator.

Even if you were able to get the JB Weld in there, all it would do would allow you enough time to save up for a new radiator anyways before the JB Weld gave out.

See if one of your local auto parts stores has a cooling system pressure testing set that you can loan from them. A little air pressure on a cool system will normally show its location. I have kept a lot of service trucks on the road with Bars Leak but at some point you have to fix it.

Appreciate the responses. Turns out it was the radiator and I’ll be replacing it. Plastic doesn’t play well with metal.

You can upgrade to an all aluminum unit for maybe less than OEM .

Under warranty alway$ work$ Be$t!

Would you mind dropping this into the After Market Products sticky thread? I can see this being looked for in the future by MUDders.
I would to learn how to do this. How do I find the aftermarket products thread? How do I add to it. Thanks

I've seen quite a few recommend these Mishimoto radiators.. they aren't cheap but are made here in US and have a lifetime warranty including accident protection.

Acrad , Did you find a Mishimoto radiator for the GX 460 ?

I contacted mishimoto directly myself a few months ago and they don’t have any aluminum radiators for the 460 (or 470).

I did not... I will throw an inquiry into the ring with them to see if they will make a custom one for us.

I'd suggest others do as well as demand will help drive development and sale. I just selected one of the other Lexus vehicles in the contact form or you can't submit.

If more of us reach out maybe they’ll make one. :)
