Hope Luke doesn't mind me posting these. These are "wings" that bolt to the existing crossmember, an alternative for those who don't want to cut the crossmember off (which is required for Luke's regular replacement rear bumper for the 80, and is one of the great things about his bumper as it shaves several inches off the rear and really improves departure angle).

He sent me these as conceptual ideas for a possible future project on the 100 (which I do NOT want to hack up for the rear bumper). Not sure if these wings can support a swing-out tire carrier, but I don't see why not, as Kaymar and TJM do it on their swing-outs for the OEM bumpers, with even less steel!

Anyway, enjoy!

Thats what I built for my 80. Its not quite as slick as that, but does what I need. I put a tire carrier on mine no problem. Spindle is on the passenger side wing and the catch for the latch is on the factory crossmember.

How much would a set of those cost I want to do a rear bumper, but have a severe lack of funds.

Is Luke planning on selling those for the 80 series?

Wow, those are awesome. its exactly what i think alot of people would like here. Would save money and trouble from installing a whole new bumper, plus the factory crossmember is pretty strong. If he decicedes to make them i'll be ready t place an or shortly

Now just rig up a simply tire carrier.

I really like this idea, especially if a tire carrier could be fitted, very curious on price!

Is it just the pics, or does the top line of the wing not follow the crease in the rear quarter panel? I think it would look alot better if it did.

Not to detract for the great pics, but your smokin crack if you think the factory cross member is beefy.

Junk, sorry.

I totally forgot to ad a vital piece of info for that statement.

By strong i more or less ment its strong enough for my application. As with anything bumper realted i think it depends on what type of abuse you will be putting on the vehicle. For now, my light wheeling and DD type of usage only needs something like these wings and the stock crossmember.

And sure, i know the stock crossmember is no match to a Slee, Kaymar, etc.

After looking at the very last picture it seems like it would be worth while to just connect the wings with a continues piece that just over laps the stock X member.

Woouldnt that make for some added strength, cleaner look and it could probable bolt on somewhat easely

What do you think?

Love the idea, and would definatley consider something like that. Not crazy about the lines on the sides(think they should parrallel the body lines better), but definately something that I would be interested in pursuing.

Derek,

Did you know that is Sam's truck?
He did great in Moab. If you like his rear bumper, you should take a look at his front bumper. It's pretty stout.

Sam's front bumper is super nice. The guy made it for him as a one off for about the same price as an ARB. It's at least 3X the ARB in "beef". It's very nicely done, though you loose the ability to shrug off a deer strike with no damage. The AC dryer protection is super cool, but unfortunately no pic.

Those rear bumper wings are just OK in my book. Sam did not like the "look" of a typical heavy duty bumper, and so Luke made these for him. I've seen these up close and personal, pulled and pushed on them, and I'll call form over function. They are not nearly as beefy as Luke's usual rear bumper. Not even close. My advice: there are better options.

As we have discussed before, Luke's usual 80 series rear bumper is probably the best looking and toughest of all the bumper options out there. Highly reccomended.

I like the look of it, but to have to drive out there and leave it for a while wouldn't work for me

If you do want to drive out, he can install in a day and the local Cruiserheads will show you a good time-even a day on the Rubicon.

Yeah Ken, come on out. NorCal 80s will definately show you a good time! And good food, too, which is kind of what we're known for...

But make sure you plan it and schedule it with Luke, as he has quite a queue for these. I put a down payment on one about a month ago and spoke to Luke this past week and I'm close, but still not quite there yet. I can't wait to get my rear crossmember hacked off! Hehe...

Romer, as much as I abuse those Norcal guys, they are some of the coolest dudes around (remember since I'm a mod I can always come back and delete my post :D ). After driving up for the 45 and having a few hours with Gozzard, I wouldn't hesitate to drive a day either way to get something done or for the truck if it means I get to hang with a cool cruiser crew. Just look at it as a mini adventure with the added benefit of hanging with them and getting a new rear bumper. The downside is you have to spend time in your 80 which isn't so bad :D

or now that I think of it, trailer the 40 out, drop the 80 there and go wheel the 40 with the norcal guys, then pick up the 80 and head home :D

18 hours non stop and 1152 miles, more than just a little jaunt. Though I did drive from Dallas to Denver non-stop when I bought it.

I would only tow the 40 if I were flat towing, and I mean on flat terrain. The Rocky Mountains don't quite provide me that option.
