Last week my kids and I went exploring around some of the
high-altitude lakes, ghost towns and abandoned mine sites
between Breckenridge and Leadville, Colorado with our FJ60 and
Syncro Vanagon camper. As we pulled into the Blue Lakes area,
a bunch of baby mountain goats came off the hillside and started
walking around the cars.

In total there were about a dozen. These normally are _very_
shy creatures and they are usually only seen as a small white dot
far away on the mountainside. You can see how close we were,
these were not taken with a telephoto lens. I have never seen
anything like this before.

Way cool! I've never seen mountain goats that close, especially the young ones. Was this near Breck?

Nice Vanagon as well. Looks in great shape.

Rad. That first pic is unreal. I bet your eyes were just as wide!!

Way cool! I've only been that close to some once. I was flyfishing an alpine lake in my float tube. I got out to take a whiz and when I got back into my belly boat and started stripping line, two adults came out of the bushes and went to licking up my salt. They were neat to watch!

That looks like it was a really cool experience.
Something not likely to ever happen again.
Nice to see you are a fellow 8B2 brother as well.

Those mountain goats probably saw your Land Cruiser from the distance and went up to you for a closer look. They just wanted a close look at the coolest vehicle ever built.....

I'd guess rabies,:hhmm: makes animals do things they would not do under normal circumstance. And these m goats are sure acting strange. But wonderful situation and awesome that you were able to document and share with us. Thanks again , and no I don't think they have rabies, just curious. :D

Curious young goats that haven't learned to fear yet. I've seen quite a few lately myself. Another thing to watch for are fawn on the trail, I have a pic somewhere I'll try to find and post. A fawn was curled up in a rut on the trail, would have run it over if I was able to do a tight turn which I'm glad I wasn't able to. Relocated it off the trail.

Colorado rocks!

That's amazing. I have a gray squirrel that lives in my yard...oh and a few starlings...
