Considering Upgrading the Taco to a Tundra (1 Viewer)

Plans in no particular order and they could take YEARS, so not trying to get any hopes up here - especially my own :)

  • Front Bumper/Winch
  • ~2" Coil Over Update/Lift
  • Sway bar extensions
  • Rear ARB Locker
  • Dual Battery System
  • Bed Storage System
  • Bed Shell (Already was told "no" to this one although it is probably too long: Reading full size commercial truck topper utility top)
  • Heavier and taller Rear Springs
  • Rock Sliders
  • Rear Bumper w/ Integrated Raised Hitch
  • Floor Mats (Weathertech as Husky doesn't make any)
  • Cut/Adjust wheel wells for 33"+ tires some day
This is funny. You can't keep a vehicle for YEARS.

We have had lots of life changes . . . . that is my story.

Also owning a small business helps a little and also is a "driver" of some of these issues, but yes, I have a problem. I think the Tundra is the solution!

I tell Heather, who is literally embarrassed by all the changes, that everyone on here does this . . luckily, she doesn't get on here - and the excuses are kinda holding up for now. A few of you are . .well . . "helpful" in your changes, as well.

Follow where the wind blows Jamie :)

Wow! Nice big truck. But every time I read the title of the thread I only think about our borders with Mexico and Canada....

Along those lines, I moved my personalized tag from my Tacoma to my Tundra until the new tag is in.

Now my Tundra has a "T4C0" tag on it. As a gringo, I wonder if anyone thinks "WTF is this guy doing?"

Swapped out the old nasty lights/lenses today. Here is the before/after half way through the job.

Picked up 5 of the 17" stock rims tonight. They are among my favorite, ever
smile.gif

They seem to be harder to find than some of the other stuff available right now as new take-offs - especially in 17x7.5.

Also bought Bora 1" spacers to help with the new tires.

Going with 285/70R17 BFG KO2 AT's . . I guess.

I agree Jamie, they are some good looking wheels. What is the BS on them?

5.5" i believe.

Have seen posted as 5 and mud has a couple Different answers yet still; And that's before you ask whats the difference in BS compared to stock lol

Agreed, those look great on any truck. Taco, pig, 45, and 80 have all run them at some point. Ive had three sets and always take pause when i see some come up for sale. :)

Give a ring if you loose a ctr cap. I have a few dozen

Take the old yellowed ones and rub them with a bug spray heavy in deet....

Then return the new ones.

Too late - already sent the old ones to the county recycling. I will know better next time and try that.

I tried the buffing kits on the GX470 and it wasn't good enough. Tried toothpaste and a cloth. Hadn't heard of Deet/Spray. Thanks for the tip!

5.5" of Back Spacing, but 15MM of Offset is what I found/understood.

I thought these had more net distance from the hub than some of the newer Toyota wheels, but as I dig in, not finding a lot of difference. A lot of the newer Toyota wheels are only 7" wide, though, so you aren't supposed to run 285's with those per BFG website, where as teh 7.5" are OK. Not sure if it really matters.

Thanks on the center caps. I would love to buy an extra just in case I lose one. Not sure if they are the standard ones that fit lots of things or not. I have a couple 80 center caps still.

EDIT: looks like the 80 center caps are a whole different animal now that I look at them.

Car polish and a little elbow grease would have restored them in no time. I polished the headlights on my Maxima once a year for the last 4 years I owned it. Every time I did it, the headlights looked brand new.

^^ Should have asked on here first!!

Gotta do sliders. Anyone have a "bug-spray, polish" work around that will save me $300? :)

Coke-a-cola and aluminum foil does a good job of polishing chrome.

Haha - I mean I have to get rid of them and put on some real sliders, of course.

Those stock things are bolted to the body - scary stuff :)

Wonder how they would look on MoonShine . . .

Several Updates:

Picked up a very gently used Camper Shell from Mr @Steelman this weekend. We are in debt to him for all the guidance and info on his build as well as help with ours. (pics to follow)

While prepping for this install, I found an interesting spot on top the cab - Looks like someone had a magnetic antenna on top for a good while :\ Going to do some sanding, naval jelly, sanding and primer. Probably will not worry too much about it for now after an ugly primer job - -until maybe we do the top or paint the camper shell.

Purchased coil-overs and rear lift tonight. More to follow here.

Had to do some sanding on the shell tonight - used the Dremel and touched up the lip where the rear tailgate fits under the fiberglass.
