Hey y’all, wondering if I need to be concerned by this rust on an FJ62? Just surface stuff? Or should I be worried about taking this overlanding?

Cheers & thanks for any advice!

Take a scraping device such as a big screwdriver to it in order to test if it's just surface or goes deeper. Also could pound on the frame with a hammer. Photo #2 looks the worst to me. Mostly looks like surface IMO.

Check the C-channels inside the frame at the rear. You will have to crawl under to get a worthwhile photo.

bad, but not unsafe bad. you should get busy on wire wheeling and treating the underside with Woolwax or Fluidfilm promptly though. what do the insides of the c-channels look like?

definitely some body rust that needs to be addressed, and everything else metal needs to be wire wheeled (or dry iced) and treated. Now, turn towards the rear bumper and get some shots of the frame (on left and right) from just past the rear wheels to the where it meets the rear of the vehicle. The frame is not boxed in here, it is open on the inside resembling a "C" or more like a "["

how does it look there?
