well, it finally happened, after 20+ years on the same chrome American Racing wagon wheel rims. I came out to the truck this morning and it was listing a bit more than usual...

Flat tire. Uggghhhh.

I'm pretty confident that the rims are just about toast. My spare stopped holding air a couple years ago as the chrome rotted through.

Unfortunately I believe the American Racing rims are long discontinued.

Has anyone ever put together a list of possible compatible rims for an FJ40?

I suspect it's a short list, as I recall way back when that I only had a few choices because of bolt pattern and offset. I have spacers in the fronts to stand off from the disc calipers.

From a few years back. http://www.flickr.com/photos/interrobang918/2105904881/in/set-72157603108003604

I just bought some from summit - US wheel, 3.75 inch backspacing, white wagon wheels. They cleared the caliper on my 40. It has 4 runner front knuckles and 60 calipers.

My favorite rims on the 40 are what I believe Toyota calls the 70 series steelies. Here's the part number 42601-60262-03 Haven't bought any lately but I have them on my 40 and my 45 with 33" tires. If you want a pic let me know and I can upload one for ya.

I love the stock steelies as well. Definitely one of the best looking wheels. Stockton wheels will widen them for you if that is what you need.

thanks for the tips and opinions. the roadkill form helped fill in some gaps in info.

i just bought these: http://www.eliteswheels.com/main/product_detail/5408 on ebay for $79/

just what I wanted. same style and solidity as the rotted AR wagon wheels, and CHEAP.

in perspective, the ARs cost $47 each in 1988. adjusted for inflation, they'd be $89 today.

w00t.

Eagle Alloy 58's fit perfect.

Now when you say max are you referring to 4.0 or going to a 2.50 backspace? I want to run 17 procomp 98 series on my 60 axles.

When I was looking into it everything I'd come across was that as long as your backspacing was 3.75 or less you were fine and didn't require spacers for the rim to fit...anything with over 3.75 had some rub and needed backspacers.

I decided that I liked the look of the stock steelie's the best so I stuck with them. I know that KY Longhunter went with a 17" (the Mojave ATX rims)....and that he did have some rubbing on the wheel wells. Not sure how the 60 axles would impact this though.

This company can make 16" - 17" or even 18" OEM style Steelies any width and b/s you want, with hupcap clips for about $250.00 a wheel. The are machined billet and bad ass...

Any 80's and back chevy 6 lugs pattern steel of other will work dont know about the newer ones but those surely work and believe you can get them mucho cheaper

I just bought a 1965 FJ45 --- I would like to get the original hub caps on the truck--- i was wondering what rims they fit on.( ie need rims that have the clips).. if you have picture or info on which rim... i d love to hear...

thx in advance

I looked for quite a while and then settled on steel 8 x 16. I think they look sharp. http://www.mrt-wheels.com/ They will do anything back spacing wise. Plus, I could convert them to beadlocks if I ever wanted to.
