Common Issues to look for in a FJ45

I'll get pics of mine later today, but yes it's held up with a bolt, on a swivel type mount that comes off the back frame support, hangs down and the bolt goes thru the tire carrier, and held in place with a nut.

So mine is probably not to far gone. I need to check and see if it's a metric bolt still. I'll be up there this weekend and take a few picture to get some options how much of mine is stock.

Are you suppose to hold the tire carrier handle up by hand while starting the nut on the bolt? Is it a wing nut? My exhaust dumps out infront of the rear tire. I believe stock exhaust is in the frame until after the rear tire. How big of a tire could you put up there with stock exhaust? Takeing my FJ55 spare tire carrier up to check it out. But it looks like it's centered. On pictures I've seen of the later FJ45s the opening for the rod handle for the winch is off to the right side not centered. Is the winch offset to the right to clear the exhaust on the later FJ45LP-Bs. A picture of that would be nice too.

I think Mark had a good idea of starting a spare tire carrier thread.

Mine was the 4X4 emblem on the tailgate.

The oval one on the tailgate? Any suggestions on where to find one?

Otherwise I'm probably gonna go with a white "GB" oval appropriately sized (british passport) :)
