The Frying Pan River, just down the valley in Basalt has some incredible trout fishing, even in the dead of winter.

Fully understand the financial piece. Four friends and I went there to ski for a week on college budgets (20 odd years ago) and we could not even afford the McDonalds for dinner .... much less the cover charges for the local watering holes.

Mike, I do not know your skill set, but

Even the rich folks in Aspen need plumbers, carpenters, landscapers, computer guys, mechanics. Most of those jobs will pay you better than a living wage if you establish yourself. I did it in Key West, but same premise.

I lived a couple islands up, out of town. Cheaper and better views. Your adventure has me looking back to 95 when I was 35 and took off to live on an island. Worked my ass off but had the experience of a lifetime for ten years. Enjoy yourself.

I've been really busy these past two weeks with my new job so I havent been able to get around to take many pics. However, I was able to snap a few on the way to work. Most days the road has a fresh layer of snow covering it and proves to be a tiny adventure each time. I was able to drive the fj60 most days which is unstoppable in snowy conditions, but, I drove my little Audi on a fresh few inches the other day and it was more like operating a boat than a car. Altogether fun fun fun. I'm still technically homeless till tomorrow so in the coming weeks I'll be finding a stable routine, finally. My work schedule will allow a few days off per week so I'll also be able to explore the surrounding areas a little more. The pics below are of my road to work, arriving at work, on patrol on a ski trail at work, and my view from the top of Buttermilk on Christmas. For new years I was able to find a rooftop over Aspen to watch fireworks during a snowfall. It was an incredible sight.

I'm pretty sure that CDOT uses mix of magnesium chloride (liquid) and sand on most major roads.

Nice pics Mike. Let me know next time you are down this way!

I should be in Golden wednesday afternoon and evening for the rising sun meeting and staying the night in Lyons. I have to make a quick turn around because part of my new living situation involves taking care of a couple of dogs. Did you PM me your phone #? I'll call when I'm there.
